Job Description

THE OPPORTUNITYWe are recruiting for a Sawmill Supervisor to join our Saltair Sawmill Division in Ladysmith, BC. What You’ll Do: The Sawmill Supervisors reports to the Production Superintendent and oversees a crew of 30-40 production workers and is responsible for ensuring a safe work environment, employee relations, quality control, cost reduction and ensuring grade recovery. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years’ supervisory experience, and specific experience in a manufacturing environment is a definite asset.RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direction, guidance and support to production personnel and operators;
  • Foster an environment of recognition and accountability with direct reports;
  • Manage and optimize mill flow during both normal and upset conditions;
  • Participate on cross functional teams designed to deliver on and improve various performance metrics: Safety, Production, Reliability, Costs;
  • Develop and monitor performance standards and expectations for various machine centers and operators;
  • Coordinate and manage projects as required, including costing, vendor selection, demolition, installation and start up;
  • Ensure compliance with OH&S Regulations, WFP Policies, Site Rules, and other best practices, with regards to employees and contractors working across the site;
  • Develop, implement and maintain strategies and processes to obtain ongoing and continuous improvement in operational safety;
  • Provide detailed and accurate reporting information for both safety, production, and performance related matters.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience
  • 3-5 year’s supervisory experience required;
  • Manufacturing or Sawmill experience is an asset;
  • Lumber grading certification with knowledge of coastal grades and species is an asset;
  • Post-secondary education in Wood Products Processing, Forestry, Commerce, or Manufacturing is an asset;
Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies
  • Strong leadership skills: motivational, organizational, communication (written and verbal), troubleshooting and mediational skills;
  • A strong personal commitment to safety and the safety of others including a strong understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations for British Columbia
  • Knowledge of Collective Agreements/union environments an asset;
  • High level of integrity and professionalism; and,
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
