Stz’uminus Education Society (SES) is seeking a passionate & self-directed youth & family support professional to join our team and collaborate with us in the implementation of our Take A Hike Land-Based Learning Program at our beautiful location in Ladysmith, BC on central Vancouver Island.Our partners, the Take a Hike Foundation, are on a mission to empower vulnerable youth to unlock their full potential and achieve personal success. We are committed to supporting and nurturing a progressive, successful community through the advancement of First Nations Education.THE OPPORTUNITYYou will work daily alongside our Clinical Counsellor, Teacher and Community Members including Elders & Knowledge Keepers to support indigenous youth in changing their lives. This team will work daily with grade 10-12 students in classroom, on the land and on field trips, including overnight multi-day wilderness explorations.Your work initially will focus on establish relationships within our schools, in our communities & with our partners to ensure the successful launch of Take A Hike for our studentsYou continuously develop relationships with youth & families to build their confidence & interest in the Take A Hike programYou support and resource our Take A Hike program through daily engagement and development of responsive programming to meet the needs and goals of your students while applying trauma-informed and social-emotional learning approachesYou facilitate your students’ growth by directly liaising with community agencies and services and developing new partnerships for supportYou participate with dedication in all parts of the program including multi-day camping trips, volunteering, and eventsYou collaborate with SES staff, the Take A Hike Foundation, and external agencies to enhance personal growth for your students & their familiesYou complete & contribute to assessments, reporting, crisis incident response & planning, referral and other consultations as identifiedWHAT YOU BRING:You are an adventurer at heart and truly value the positive impact of spending time in nature, someone who recognizes that the most impactful changes can happen outside of a conventional office or classroom, perhaps in a canoe or on a mountaintopYou are comfortable & confident in the outdoors, able to care for yourself & others in challenging conditionsYou have a relevant degree in Child & Youth Care, Social Work, Counselling, Psychology or EducationYou have proven recent success supporting vulnerable youth & families directly, including group sessionsYou are dedicated to incorporating our indigenous Coast Salish culture, hul’q’umi’num’ language & Stz’uminus ways of knowing in your professional practice and personal learning journeyYou are confident with behavior management for youth and proficient in contemporary crisis intervention practicesYou are a collaborative team player who respects and values what each member of the program contributes to education of our learnersYou are physically fit and able to support and lead youth in vigorous outdoor activities and to camp overnight on self-propelled outdoor explorationsWildnerness First Aid, or willingness & ability to become (re)certifiedYou have access to reliable transportation & are eligible for a Criminal Record Check for working with children and vulnerable personsAbove all, you are passionate about supporting indigenous youthWe proudly offer learning opportunities for all ages, from infancy through to elder years,through our dynamic and integrated programs:Nutsuumat Lelum DaycareInfant-School Age—Stz’uminus Primary SchoolJr. Kindergarten-Grade 4—Stz’uminus Community SchoolGrades 5-12—Hul’q’umi’num Language ClassesPreschool-Elder Years—Post-Secondary & Continuing EducationAll AgesWe would love to explore how we can work together with you to support our learners.To apply for this opportunity, please submit your resume & cover letter to careers@stzuminus.com.This position will remain open until filled.We are located at:3951 Shell Beach RoadLadysmith, BC V9G 1K6Quick Apply
