Key strategic business activities include Vendor selection, negotiation of Vendor earned income, fill rate target achievement, product & brand strategy, driving Sysco Brand growth, daily Region/Site support, market activity & promotion, GS1/ECC Net compliance, and full execution of Category Management-Sourcing. Through the Category Management process, the Category Manager is responsible for the facilitation, execution and launch of National Category Management initiatives. They are required to create engaging relationships with internal customers, maintain a productive relationship with National vendors, are responsible for Category growth across all Region/Site’s through implementation and monitoring of each event. They are required to implement new innovative products and new Sysco Brand Products nationally.Role Responsibilities:

  • National selection of Corporate Vendor partners and negotiation of all National Earned Income programs (more than $340M/yr.), focusing on increasing financial metrics associated with Earned Income.
  • Provide leadership across Region/Site’s related to the realization of earned income growth and Vendor compliance; this includes negotiation, planning, implementing, review and taking actions necessary to achieve plans.
  • Full direction and execution of 1-6 (Market Insights, Category Strategy, Optimal Assortment-Lotting, Negotiation/Recommendation, Implementation & Tailored Selling) of Category Management process; lead in ensuring communication across all stakeholders, implementation, compliance, and performance metrics are attained.
  • Develops and performs opportunity assessment for National Vendor/Category improvement, sets expectations, and implements process to help Region/Site’s reach performance goals while maintaining solid accountability across their projects.
  • Partner with Marketing to engage in National Vendor-specific activities, POS and promotions.
  • Develop Sysco Brand product & brand strategies including QA compliance, innovation, growth, identifying gaps at Region/Site level and working with Region/Sites to address Sysco Brand listings.
  • Lead in addressing specific National Vendor issues. Must take ownership, identify gaps and work with Region/Site’s on issue resolution.
  • Drive fill rate target discussions and action plans with key National Vendors monthly, focusing on achieving 99.5% targets.
  • Monitor ongoing activities in marketplace, ensuring compliance to events & Vendors, communication of market activities that may affect Region/Site’s & customers, and communicating with senior levels when we are off performance targets or extraneous issues arise.
  • Develop training materials for Sales Associates as it relates to General Sales Meetings (GSM’s), Sysco Kitchen.
  • Develop Region/Site tools for use in implementing Category Management events (POS, event GAP analysis tools, Sysco Brand tools).
  • Responsible to help develop Category Analysts to successfully fill succession into Category Management positions.
  • Responsible for converting National Vendor partners to Central Billing & Corporate Billing.
  • Guide National CMU & Healthcare team sales associates in presenting and approving Earned Income support for new business acquisition. Works closely with Pricing Intelligence as it relates to specific Sourced categories and Earned Income support.
  • Direct influence on National Vendor activity with GS1-ECC Net targeted at full compliance with respect to data, marketing information, product nutritionals and product images.
  • Responsible for compliance with all Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) comprising Sysco’s Food Safety Program, specific for the assigned role.
  • Assist Food Safety Program Manager in ensuring compliance to Sysco’s Food Safety Program that leads to compliance with third party certification and customer requirements.
  • Understands that their role is critical in creating a safe organization with minimal environmental impact and the value that brings to the organization.
  • Is willing to drive Environmental, Health and Safety performance by acting as an example and holding their team accountable to complying with EHS programs, policies, and requirements.

  • Communicates broadly and frequently the companys vision, direction, goals, performance against plan, changes, and expectations through participation in department meetings, one-on-one meetings, and informal conversations with associates
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements:
  • Min 5 yrs Merchandising/Category Management experience in retail or foodservice.
  • Sales experience is an asset.
  • College diploma/degree in Business Administration, Marketing or related field is required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, Hospitality, Marketing or related field preferred.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Ability to effectively foster strong relationships with Vendors, internal departments such as Region/Site’s, Supply Chain, Sourcing, etc. to drive sales, resolve issues and create competitive advantage.
