We are currently looking to fill the position of Protective Equipment Tester Helper.Join the enthusiastic, energetic team at the Protective Equipment Test Center (PETC) in the Lakeside Industrial Park building near Halifax. At the PETC, protective equipment such as rubber gloves and hot line sticks are tested and repaired. This is an essential component of the NSPI Safety Program for our Power Line Technicians and other Electrical Workers. As such a keen awareness of, and interest in the Safety of others and the NSPI Safety Program in general is essential for this position. Employees at the PETC have worked over 20 years without incurring a lost time injury, further demonstrating the focus on safety that must be inherent in everything that is done in this location.Accountabilities: As a member of the PETC team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient performance of general utility duties as necessary to support the safe and efficient operation of the Test Center. These include but are not limited to; general shop cleaning and maintenance activities, cleaning and handling of heavy rubber protective parts such as blankets and hoses, cleaning and drying of rubber gloves, packing and shipping of tested materials, receiving and unpacking of untested stock, etc. Duties may include cleaning of PETC equipment, and assistance with preventative maintenance duties, repair and corrective maintenance duties. You will provide assistance to other PETC workers in the performance of their duties.You will be required to take training courses including in-house safety, environmental, vehicle operation and training related to your position. You must be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills.Experience and certification in the operation of forklifts, aisle stackers and other material handling equipment is preferred. The ability to attain this certification through training is essential to the position.You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will assure compliance with environmental regulations as they relate to the PETC.Skills, Capabilities and Experience: A Grade XII education or equivalent, with reading and writing skills necessary to safely and effectively perform the duties of the position, is required. Familiarity with, and the ability to utilize computers is essential as the PETC uses a computerized inventory control and device tracking system.You must be able to perform heavy labor duties and be familiar with and capable of using common hand and power tools in the course of the day to day work. Being self-motivated and having the ability to get along well with others is essential.You must hold a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License with a minimum of 2 years driving experience and provide a driver's abstract satisfactory to NSPI.Form of Application: Click the APPLY button at the end of the online job posting.
