We are currently looking to fill two Procurement Specialist positions .Note: These are 2-year term positionsAccountabilities:The successful candidates will join the Procurement, Real Estate & Corporate Security team, whose objective is to deliver maximum value to our internal customers by delivering safe, effective and efficient procurement, supply chain, inventory management, real estate and security services while focusing on customer service and cost reductions. The Procurement Specialist supports the full scope of procurement activities once initiated by the business units and will be responsible for executing procurement activities and supporting business units to achieve project objectives, cost effective solutions, increased process efficiencies, and improved supplier performance. The successful candidates will be expected to understand relevant market factors and how to account for them in supply chain strategies, to maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures.Some of the specific tasks include:

  • Proactive communication with assigned business units to understand upcoming projects and operational activities that will require procurement support.
  • Consistent communication with the business units on status of procurement activities.
  • Lead procurement process improvement projects with proactive analysis, market research, cross-functional teams, and stakeholder collaboration on issues and opportunities, all with the goal of achieving a balance between cost reduction and service improvements. Develop, negotiate, and maintain major supply arrangements, ensuring value is achieved through secure and effective agreements.
  • Foster a work environment based on mutual trust and respect among management, peers and customers
You will be responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.Skills, Capabilities and Experience:As the ideal candidate, you will hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline plus a minimum of 3 years of progressive procurement, supply chain, contract development/ management, or operations experience. A SCMP or PMP designation would be considered an asset. An equivalent combination of business experience and education may also be considered. Experience in technical buying, ideally within engineered services, IT, construction services, materials or other electric utility categories would also be considered an asset as is the technical ability to understand the operational aspects of assigned categories.A team player and natural relationship builder, you are also results driven and possess great attention to detail with advanced competencies in MS-Office tools.At Nova Scotia Power, our employees are our greatest strength.
