Job Description

Engineering ManagerResponsible for the daily and long-term engineering of the plant, capital projects, equipment improvements, fellow project engineers while maintaining and upholding all food safety and OHS guidelines.Relationships and ContactsReporting to the Director of Operations, the Engineering Manager will be a self-starter with a strong work ethic,quot;Can Do quot; attitude and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. The Engineering Manager will oversee the Engineers and work closely with the maintenance department.Major Responsibilities

  • Oversee all day-to-day activities of the project engineering team.
  • Responsible for capital projects, equipment improvements, and troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Provide direction for long term planning for all site assets.
  • Develop and manage overhead and capital budgets.
  • Coach, lead, and motivate a team of two or more project engineers.
  • Work with the site #39;s reliability manager to assist maintenance through capital project and/or equipment upgrades.
  • Contribute to and lead initiatives for cost reduction, employee and food safety, employee engagement, risk reduction, and continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with OSHA standards applicable to an industrial working environment as well as food safety requirements is an asset.
  • Collaborate with corporate project engineering departments and other site departments to ensure consistency in project execution and solutions.
  • Collaborate with equipment vendors, engineering consultants, and contractors to deliver projects and solutions.
  • Implement and follow industry and company best practices.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Health and Safety Responsibilities
  • Using or wearing the protective equipment designated by the accident prevention policy.
  • Follow safe work procedures, rules, and policies.
  • Ensuring employees are not performing work with faulty equipment or in violation of safe work practices.
  • Supervising and directing employees when doing hazardous work.
  • Ensuring all protective devices and equipment are properly used and maintained.
  • Ensuring employees are thoroughly familiar with safe work methods for jobs being performed under their supervision and insisting on their use at all times.
  • Developing a proper perspective among their employees toward accident prevention through training and personal example.
  • Initiating appropriate action promptly to correct any unsafe situation, condition, tool, equipment, process, or practice that they may be aware of. Initiate all follow-up required to ensure completion.
  • Training and instructing new, transferred, or loaned employees with respect to Safety Rules and Procedures in their area, including the issuing of personal protective equipment.
  • Ensure that good housekeeping is maintained at all times.
  • Enforcing awareness of all Accident Prevention Rules in Provincial Health and Safety legislation.
  • Reporting all accidents or injuries to your supervisor immediately.
Food Safety Responsibility
  • Commitment to Quality System Policy
  • Enforce quality and food safety programs within the role.
  • Communication of food safety issues to related department and action within the role.
  • Active participation in food safety, food security, health, sanitation, hygiene, and quality program within the role
Qualifications and Abilities
  • Bachelor #39;s degree in engineering or CET designation.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience that includes progressively more responsible roles.
  • Proven track record of leading various teams and/or project to achieve establish goals.
  • Excellent ability to manage multiple technically diverse priorities.
  • Exposure to an industrial/plan environment and/or food processing is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate team members.
  • Strong time management skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand/walk for 8 hours
  • Ability to squat, bend, kneel, reach, twist, use ladders, climb stairs.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50lb/ 34kg
  • Occasional carrying up to 50lb/34kg
