Job Description

Strathcona Resources Ltd. (“Strathcona”) is a private Calgary, Alberta based crude oil and gas production and development company focused on maximizing oil and gas recovery from a rapidly growing inventory of class leading pools. Strathconas operations, infrastructure and land position are focused in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.Strathcona is currently seeking an experienced full time Environmental Advisor. This position reports to the Team Lead, Environment and Regulatory and will be based out of the Lloydminster office. The role will manage environmental requirements and provide guidance to operations across Strathcona’s conventional oil and gas and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) assets in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. The position will lead environmental liability, compliance, governance, auditing, and associated reporting initiatives.The Successful Candidate Will:

  • Manage and coordinate environmental assessment and remediation programs for impacted sites meeting regulatory requirements advancing to closure for locations across Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.
  • Support operations and consultants in the coordination, management and reporting of spills and advance sites to regulatory closure.
  • Support operations to proactively manage liability exposure (alignment with regulatory expectations).
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of an environmental audit program.
  • Coordinate the development of remediation plans and budgets and ensure the appropriate input and support into the Asset Retirement Obligation (ARO) program.
  • Management of third-party vendors, contractors, and consultants for programs under this position’s accountability.
  • Assist in development and adoption of corporate governance documentation, policies, and best management practices/procedures to improve overall performance of the organization.
  • Support and provide guidance to corporate, operations, construction and development teams on environmental matters including but not limited to waste management, water management, tracking and reporting, regulatory inspections and follow-up, equipment spacing, pad, pipeline, and facility construction and other environmental areas (wildlife, reclamation vegetation, etc.
  • Advocate and represent Strathcona through participation with local stakeholder groups, including regulators, landowners, communities, and industry working groups.
  • Coordinate analysis, reporting and compliance under environmental approvals and legislation.
  • Communicate regulatory changes affecting the organization to internal stakeholders and develop strategies to meet new requirements.
  • Review environmental incident data, highlighting areas of concern and assist with the development of programs to reduce incident frequency.
  • Develop and complete environment stewardship reports, including providing input into Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
Qualifications Include:Skills and Knowledge:
  • Strong knowledge and experience in soil & groundwater assessments, remediation, reporting, spill management and notification, and environmental best management practices across Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills with regulatory authorities, stakeholder groups, and across all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Proven collaboration and positive relationship building skills.
Education and Experience:
  • 7+ years’ experience in oil and gas operations, compliance, and environmental management.
  • Post-secondary education in environmental science, biology, geology, or related discipline.
  • Applicable professional designation is required. (P.Ag , P.Biol, RPF, PEng or Technical Equivalent)
  • Familiar with environmental requirements for conventional oil & gas and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) requirements for Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan projects.
Work Environment:
  • Based at our Lloydminster office.
  • Field travel will be required (up to 40%). Must possess a valid driver’s license.
