Employment Opportunity Youth Support Worker – Safety Sensitive WHO ARE WE Onion Lake Family Services supports families by collaborating with our community and elders to assist our children, youth and families to thrive in a nurturing and safe environment. Onion Lake Cree Nation is aPlains Cree First Nation in Treaty Six Territory bordering the Alberta and Saskatchewan Provincial Border, approximately 50 km North of Lloydminster. The Nation has approximately 585 square km of land area and a membership of approximately 6500. Onion Lake Family Services is an incorporated body that serves the children and families in the community. We pride ourselves as being a leader among Indigenous communities providing services related to child welfare and protection. Part of our service is also to provide Enhanced Prevention whereby we offer innovative programs and services that enrich the well- being, health and prosperity of children and families. We strive to provide program delivery to support a thriving and self-reliant future for the members of Onion Lake Cree Nation.Job Summary The Youth Support Worker(s) will create and build healthy relationships with our children in care, children at risk of being in care and high risk youth in the community. The worker will create a positive network of support for these children and youth. The Youth Support Worker will report to the Prevention Supervisor.LOCATION: Onion Lake Family ServicesDEPARTMENT: ProtectionTERM: 2 Permanent PositionsCORE HOURS: Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PMPlease note, some evenings and weekends may occasionally be requiredBased on these services, we are seeking an energetic, conscientious, and detail oriented individual who enjoys making a difference, being part of a team, and takes pride in his or her career. As a Youth Support Worker, your responsibilities will include:

  • Help refer children to appropriate services
  • Create activities for youth that are helpful in ensuring healthy development and healthy relationships for youth
  • Performing land based activities for the youth promoting healthy relationships within their environment
  • Create activities that help build self-confidence and self esteem
  • Work closely with youth mental health supports
  • Help drive a healthy relationship with the children and the community as well as with the Agency
  • Support children in their belief system and encourage healthy supports
  • Develop and implement appropriate plans, strategies and activities that will help address their complex needs, strengthen their circle of support and provide a sense of belonging and stability
  • Work closely with the family services team and caregivers to support goals identified by youth
  • Teaches life skills and community survival skills
  • Provide emotional support and models acceptable behaviors’
  • Develops collaborative relationships with youth, families and informal/formal support systems to strengthen children and youth circles
  • Engages with youth in acceptable recreational and social activities in the community that will build on their strengths, develop their interpersonal skills and supports their involvement in their beliefs to strengthen their sense of identity
  • Ability to recognize potential crisis, analyze these situations accurately and implement coping strategies
  • Other duties as requested by supervisor
Requirements:
  • Youth care worker certificate or diploma, social work certificate or diploma. Equivalences will be considered
  • Related work experience will be considered
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with acceptable driver’s abstract
  • Clear Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector
