About the Lucasville Greenway SocietyThe Lucasville Greenway Society is working on an active transportation (cycling and walking) connection from Wallace Lucas Community Centre to Old Sackville Road. This is one phase of what we could build, we would like to connect Lucasville and the surrounding subdivisions (Waterstone, Kingswood North, and Timber Trails) to Hammonds Plains and Lower Sackville.Job Summary:The Lucasville Greenway Society has a unique and challenging job opportunity as Community Historical Researcher. The ideal applicant is a self-starter, an independent resourceful researcher with excellent communication skills. In this position the applicant will further develop their research skills in a non-profit organization and learn about the rich history of Lucasville.ResponsibilitiesCreate an historical document for the Lucasville, N.S. community, the Historical Research will include:Original families of the communityWhere the community name originatedConfirmation of the original date of Lucas SettlementAccount of the building, non-building structures of the community (church, community center, school, baptism location, local employers, etc.)Past and current look of Lucasville including maps and graphsReach out to other non-profit organizations for community historical feedbackExtensive archival research of the community and original residentsReach out to area historians, Elders and Original Resident descendantsAccount of the local Veterans, Athletes, Business (woman)(man), Religious Leaders, Politicians, Doctors, Lawyers, Business (family stores), Past and Present and moreCompile completed electronic historical research document before the 16th week of the historical research project that meets the criteria and expectation of the LGS Chair and BoardSuccessful candidate must follow confidentiality agreement with regards to personal and historical information collected during your research over the 16 weeksSuccessful candidate will be responsible to arrange one on one meetings with community residents for the collection of oral and electronic history sessionsSuccessful candidate will be responsible to do in-depth research at the Halifax Archives, Fultz House and other locations to attain the historical information for the community of LucasvilleSuccessful candidate will be responsible to arrange 2 community engagements in Lucasville regarding the historical research project to reach out to them for more community feedback to add to the assigned work described in the project terms of referenceSuccessful candidate will be coached by Chair intermittently through the work weekQualificationsSuccessful candidate has:History Major Graduate student or graduate from a recognized universityExcellent communication and presentation skillsMust have own laptop and cell phonemust have own reliable vehicleWork With UsLearning about the rich history of LucasvilleWorking with a non-profit organizationA different summerjobA decent salary + bonus
