Job Description

Sandy Bay Child and Family Services Inc. invites applications for aCustomary Care Worker - Main Office (Marius) 1 Full Time PositionSandy Bay Child & Family Services (SBCFS) is a mandated agency by the Southern First Nations Network of Care Child and Family Services Authority. The agency operates with the authority to provide child and family services to community members of Sandy Bay First Nation both on- and off-reserve.Position Summary: Reporting to the Customary Care Coordinator, the Customary Care Worker is responsible for the delivery of the Customary Care Program; and ensures, that the program is implemented in a manner based on unity, traditions, values, beliefs and customs of the First Nation serviced by the Agency; and, per the funding agreements and the First Nations’ standards.Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Deliver the Agency’s customary care program and ensure adherence to the Agency’s policies and procedures.
  • Promote, support and maintain a network complement of foster care homes within the Agency’s member First Nation communities.
  • Recruit, select, train and support Foster Parents and families.
  • Develop and ensure the consistent adherence to the Agency protocol for the placement of children in foster care homes.
  • Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of each foster care placement.
  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive orientation and training package for Foster Parents.
  • Apply performance measures and implement improvement requirements and techniques to meet program benchmarks and standards as directed by the Customary Care Coordinator.
  • Participate in job performance in accordance with the Agency’s policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to and ensure all reporting obligations under the program’s funding arrangements and the Agency’s policies and procedures are met.
  • Maintain liaison with Agency staff, relevant personnel of community resources, professionals, traditional healers, and all others concerned with the provision of the Foster Care Program.
  • Enters information on CFSIS and the Intake Module as required.
Qualifications:
  • B.S.W., or Child & Family Services Diploma and/or equivalent education or a minimum of two years of experience in the field.
  • Ability to obtain Registered Social Work status with the Manitoba College of Social Workers.
  • Knowledge of the Manitoba CFS Act and Provincial Standards relevant to Foster Care Management.
  • Commitment to adhering to the principles as noted in An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Metis children.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of collateral services/community resources and how to access.
  • Must have strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with other support/professional staff and the public.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under minimum supervision and in a team setting.
  • Must possess strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to achieve quality results while handling multiple tasks and experience in adapting to a changing workplace.
  • Knowledge of department programs and experience with Intake Module/CFSIS would be an asset.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle and willing to travel.
  • The ability to speak the Ojibway language would be an asset.
