Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities:Wood is currently recruiting for a PLC Technician with extensive experience in the oil and gas industry.Role DescriptionThe responsibilities of a PLC Technician will depend on the size and scope of the project. PLC Technicians will be responsible for performing the commissioning activities and documentation pertaining to the following:

  • Compressor stations
  • Oil or gas measurement facilities
  • Pump station
  • Oil terminal facilities
  • IRMLV sites
  • Controls and safety systems operated by PLC, RTU, DCS, etc
  • Complete reports as required by the Commissioning Lead
  • Work with internal stakeholders to ensure all control system commissioning activities are completed in a safe and controlled manner
Safety
  • Shall attend and participate in the daily safety meetings
  • Shall report all near misses and incidents to the Team Lead within 24 hours as per current Company Incident Management Process
  • All safety procedures must be followed as per the commissioning procedures
Quality
  • Review with the Team Lead upcoming Work activities for the proper test equipment, personnel, safety measures, vendor support, and documentation required
  • Support and facilitate a highly effective, collaborative environment with seamless and open communication to the team
Budget
  • Inform Team Lead of any issues that could affect budget
  • Work with Company departments responsible for control system back-up management to ensure it is working and accurate before turnover to Operations
Schedule
  • Inform Team Lead of any issues that could affect or cause delays in completion of the Site
Commissioning Practices
  • Shall assist the Commissioning Team Lead in any or all of his duties, when requested
  • Review the drawings and procedures prior to starting the assigned Work task
  • Review daily Work activities and complete the Work scheduled as set out by the Lead
  • Complete the test sheets daily for Work completed that day
  • Complete detailed reports highlighting functional testing as well as other commissioning activities associated with the automation system
  • When requested or instructed, assist the vendors and others with the Work scope for the day
  • Review upcoming Work activities for the proper test equipment, personnel, safety measures, vendor support, and documentation requirement with the Team Lead
  • Capable of interpreting written word controls philosophy to controls platform programming code
  • Capable of initial start-up and program load for control system
  • Capable of troubleshooting and making recommendations on SCADA and HMI addressing issues
  • Capable of making, tracking and restoring temporary modifications to control system programs to enable completion of commissioning tests Support SCADA testing to Operations Control Center and other contractual stakeholders
  • Work with Company departments responsible for control system back-up management to ensure it is working and accurate before turnover to Operations
  • For Flow Measurement applications, have knowledge of the flow calculation methods required to be carried out in the control system software
  • Role reports to the Site Commissioning Lead
  • This position may require travel and will be based out of the field office
  • Employee is required to bring PPE
Documents
  • Complete the test sheets daily for Work completed that day
  • Capable of documenting point-to-point testing of control system I/O from end device through
PCL/DCS and HMI
  • Capable of performing SAT of control system functionality as per the Operating Philosophy
Document and SAT documentation
  • Create RFI and other engineering interface documents
Skills / Qualifications:Minimum Role RequirementsQualifications for PLC Technicians include the following:
  • Adequate training and experience to understand and follow project-specific MOC processes, Control of Commissioning Temporary Modifications Procedure as well as Instrumentation and Control System Management of Change TransCanada Operating Procedure
  • Related years of experience according to level
Assets would be:
  • Bilingual would be considered an Asset but not mandatory
  • For the employee to have specialized training
  • For the employee to have a technical or engineering degree
Additionally, PLC Technicians must:
  • Possess knowledge of all equipment installed on-site and the ability to locate and understand equipment manuals
  • Possess knowledge of potential control system platforms and programming software likely to be encountered at Company facilities.Work request should indicate applicable platforms; Yokogawa HMI, GE Proficy, Siemens Step 7, Allen Bradley, ControlLogix, RS Logix 5, Wonderware HMI, Bristol Controlwave and Controlwave Redundant, GE PLC’s Oil & Gas and Siemens PLC used for Units on Oil side
  • Be able to support commissioning of PLC data points
