Join us!Job SummaryThe role of Specialist System Design is responsible for the production of detailed functional design for solution subsystem components, whether based on a packaged solution or on custom development. This involves working with Product Management, Architecture and end users to understand the end-to-end architecture and requirements and flesh out a detailed system design for the specific component or area of expertise. This includes working with the Expert System Designer to ensure consistency and a practice-based approach across the entire subsystem design. He or she will also be involved in the development, testing, and integration stages.Main ResponsibilitiesWork with Architecture and Solution Integrators from the various OT segments to understand integration points and services requirements and translate those into workable requirements for IT Telecommunications and integration teamStrong understanding of telecommunication technologies (WAN, LAN, Wireless) to drive performance, capacity and reliability requirements of the Telecommunications networkProvide oversight and guidance/support of the Technology Integrators within the projectEnsure consistency of the integrated solution by reviewing and approving solution artifactsAssist in defining test strategyManage and mitigate solution and integration delivery risksParticipate in ITC-IP Industry Committees for establishing Industry Standards in regards to PTC messaging system and its interoperability supportDrive requirements for systems management & configuration management within domain.RequirementsExperience5 to 10 years’ relevant work experienceAt least five (5) years’ experience in complex solution integrationAt least five (5) years’ experience in software engineering and designExtensive background in high availability carrier grade environmentsExperience working with Agile and DevOps development organizations (asset)Experience managing life cycle of delivery of complex software solutions (asset).Education/Certification/DesignationBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent degree and experience.General Skills and CompetenciesBe able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing; adapt to audienceApply analytical thinking: analyze data and propose solutionsEmbrace a team mindset: develop collaborative relationships with othersAbility to establish roadmap and strategy and present to senior managementAbility to deal with ambiguity to take high level requirements and bring them to precise technical requirementsTechnical reference for Operation and Integration Infrastructure teamPossess organizational, time-management and prioritizing skillsEmpower and develop people: provide feedback and recognition.Technical Skills/KnowledgeGood knowledge of system engineering and design principlesKnowledge of various Unix operating systemsKnowledge of the common sources of trouble in IT InfrastructureExtensive knowledge of various messaging architecturesKnowledge of documenting complex concepts such as impact analysis, security models, performance and capacity planning, and strategic technical decisions.About CNAs a leading North American transportation and logistics company, CN is a true backbone of the economy.
