Job Description

Company descriptionJGL Shepherd farms is a specialty crop farm located in Moosomin, SK and grows 10 acres of hops for the Saskatchewan craft beer industry. Were proud to be a part of the Saskatchewan agricultural community, and we love that our provinces breweries now have the ability to create beer made from all local ingredients. But its not enough to just be local- we also knew we had to create a high-quality product. Each step of our hop production process has been optimized, from the growing season, to the drying methods, and storage of processed hops to ensure that the aromas and oil content of our hops are maximized, creating more intense flavors and aromas. Our hops are a premium product and they play a key part in producing premium beer.Job descriptionWe are seeking a self-motivated and curious person to aid in all aspects of hop production for the 2022 growing season. The position will last for 6 weeks, starting on May 16th, and be expected to work for 30 to 35 hours per week. Longer summer work term available for the right candidate. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working outdoors and with farm equipment.Responsibilities

  • Stringing hop plants
  • Training hop plants
  • Yard maintenance including weed and grass control
  • Pre harvest maintenance
  • Harvest - including cutting, baling and pelleting hops
Qualifications
  • Farm experience and experience with equipment is an asset, but not required as training will be provided
  • Self-motivated and curious about hop production
  • A willingness to learn
  • Commercial hop production requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work outdoors in all types of weather and at height (up to 18’ in the air). Ability to walk, stoop, climb, and lift light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 50 lbs) is necessary as well as the capability to operate and other motorized equipment
  • A valid driver’s license
