Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.Working as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team in the Ambulatory Care setting and Specialty clinics, such as Endoscopy, Urodynamics, Minor Surgical Plastics and Cataract Sedation Nurse. The Endoscopy Nurse functions as an experienced self-directed surgical care nurse by assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating nursing care for assigned patients.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperiencePost-basic education in Gastroenterology and Urodynamics; training in Endoscopy, Urodynamics, Minor Surgical Specialty clinics, Procedural Sedation, and two (2) years recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.Basic Life Support, Level C.Skills And Abilities

  • Apply nursing process as required and described in BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards of Nursing Practice.
  • Demonstrate sound organizational, problem solving, and teaching skills
  • Demonstrate sound judgement, observation and patient assessment skills
  • Demonstrate tact and empathy
  • Prioritise and organize patient demands made and care needs
  • Operate related equipment
  • Remain calm and respond appropriately in stressful and emergency situations
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary health care team
  • Foster good public relations
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Physically able to perform the duties of the position
  • Work independently, with limited supervision.
