Refer to the "How to apply" section if you require a disability-related accommodation.What can I expect to do in this roleJoin our team as a water/wastewater professional with OCWAIn this role, you will be part of the team responsible for the overall operations, maintenance, compliance, conformance of applicable quality management, environmental management, regulatory systems, and Health and Safety programs as prescribed by the client and OCWA. You will provide support and strategic advice and expertise to Operations Management for the successful contract delivery. This role will also include using your skill sets to assist with capital projects, major maintenance and day to day operations.How do I qualifyMandatory

  • Class 2 certification in Water Treatment and Water Distribution, Class 2 wastewater treatment and collection
  • Ability to act as Operator-in-Charge and make operational decisions to ensure that regulatory requirements are met.
  • Act as Overall Responsible Operator as required (ORO Level 2 facilities), or back up ORO.
  • Valid Class G drivers license.
  • Must be available to respond to inquiries after hours or be available for overtime as required.
Knowledge
  • Technical knowledge of the theories, principles and practices related to the operations, compliance, maintenance and administration of water treatment and distribution systems.
  • Technical knowledge and practical experience in water treatment, pumping stations, pumps and related equipment, maintenance and repairs.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of environmental health and safety legislation, regulations, procedures and guidelines including the Safe Drinking Water Act, Environmental Protection Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, Regulations 170/03, 180/03, 128/03 and 169/03, Occupational Health and Safety Act, National Fire Prevention Association Standards 291, Traffic Management Section 7 of the Highway Traffic Act as well as other statues to monitor program delivery and ensure compliance.
  • Thorough knowledge of ISO ISP104001:2015, Drinking Water Quality Management System, internal auditing practices as well overall applied knowledge of Environmental and Drinking Water (EMS/QMS)management systems
  • Position requires an understanding of SCADA system and alarms monitoring, knowledge and understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), Emergency Response System and requirements of Water Quality Sampling.
  • Experience/knowledge of maintenance practices; coordination and control of operating resources.
  • Ensures optimization of staffing and financial resources to effectively maintain the continuity of operations, distribution and collection and maintenance services programs.
  • Working knowledge of the water and wastewater industry using the Composite Correction Program to increase process and facility performance through improved reliability
Interpersonal and Communication Skills
  • Good interpersonal skills are required to effectively communicate with Agency staff, clients, other levels of government and the public.
  • Good problem solving, planning, project management, financial, analytical and research skills.
Other Essential Skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively to ensure that all operational and maintenance requirements are addressed and support the Operations Management in negotiating changes or adjustments as process requirements change; respond to day-to-day queries from client and operational and maintenance staff through the Senior Operations Manager and provide technical expert advice.
  • Ability to implement corporate and client objectives and standards for the QEMS/QMS systems; direct process control activities and interpreting process data efficiencies; provide optimization solutions; prevent process performance problems; and ensure the highest performance standards for plant operations.
  • Develop, review, revise, and implement facilitys Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Contingency Plans, Ability to complete facility assessment reviews.
  • Ensure that the Operational Plan is reviewed and updated and that all aspects of the DWQMS are met.
  • Lead and manage projects and major maintenance; prepare and review operation schedules.
  • Ability to provide training to facility operations and maintenance staff.
