If you would like to print a copy of this position for your records, click on the Print Preview link.Job Category Staffamp; Executive - Finance/Accounting/Purchasing Department Chancellor - New Brunswick Overview Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Business Manager II Supervisor for the New Brunswick Chancellor’s Office. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Business Operations, this position is responsible for budget management for New Brunswick Graduate School (NB SG). The Business Manager is responsible for the business operations of (NB SG) and will serve as an advisor to the Dean and Associate Deans in all matters relating to finance, budget, resource allocation and policies and procedures pertaining to financial operations and administration.Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Makes decisions on budgetary actions, financial operations requirements are made frequently. Makes decisions on staffing needs and purchases.
  • Works closely with the NB SG Staff.
  • Works to ensure adherence to budget as developed by the Dean and Associate Deans, acts as a resource and provides expertise for unit staff in purchasing, Human Resources, payroll, accounts payable, and budget system procedures, and ensures that unit transactions are in compliance with University policy.
  • Provides support to the Dean in developing budgets and components parts of the overall college budget, and provides unit budget reports to the Dean on a regular basis.
  • Maintains positive relationships with Associate Deans, Assistant Deans, Directors , and staff and ensures that unit issues and concerns are brought to the attention of the Dean.
  • The main focus of this position is to help develop models that use large internal data sets that assist the Dean in performing complex financial analysis. These analyses provide the Dean with the information needed to make key operating and strategic decisions.
  • Other tasks and projects will be assigned as determined by the Sr. Director of Business Operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • At least five years of related professional experience in a finance or accounting function in a leadership or managerial role of increasing responsibility.
Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrates analytical skills that allow for interpretation of budgetary, financial, and related management information.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience using spreadsheet, charting, and other software tools, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Must be expert in the use of pivot tables and other advanced spreadsheet tasks.
  • Strong writing skills sufficient to draft professional reports and correspondence that is clear and concise.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, especially with regards to sensitive or confidential financial or organizational matters and respond flexibly and positively in all circumstances, and to work calmly under pressure.
  • Able to work cooperatively with people from all levels in the University.
  • Requires strong understanding of business and accounting principles, strong communication skills, and ability to interpret complex policies and procedure.
  • Must be able to handle multiple, diverse tasks, and establish effective working relations with internal and external constituencies.
  • Strong interpersonal, diplomatic, and communications skills are essential.
  • Must be able to effectively manage multiple priorities, sensitive situations/information and tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree or advanced certification preferred.
  • Experience in Higher Education and/or knowledge of Rutgers University environment and sponsored projects administrative structure.
  • Knowledge of Rutgers University policies, guidelines and processes.
  • Experience with all Cornerstone applications, RAPSS , ECRT , HCM /Payroll, EPBCS . Advanced knowledge of MS office suite, Oracle, PeopleSoft, Cloud Financials.
