Job Description

Bulldog Energy Group is a full service fluid management company.We have been serving the oil industry since 1996; and we lead the way in service, with a focus on safety and environmental responsibility.We have offices located in Mannville & Nisku, AB - looking after all three of our divisions: Vac & Water, Rentals, and Heavy Equipment.We are currently looking for a full-time NCSO certified Field Safety Officer to provide safety support to our field staff.This position will be based out of Nisku, AB, reports to the Health & Safety Manager and will work shiftwork and on-call as required.RESPONSIBLITIES & ACTIVITIES:

  • Implement and reinforce safety program in the field by:
    • Coaching and mentoring all field employees to ensure they are aware of the safety program, know the specific policies/procedures/processes/practices that are applicable to their work, and can demonstrate how to apply them on a daily basis
  • Evaluate the presence / absence and form and manner of all field related paperwork, including but not limited to: logs, FLHA, JSA, inspections, BARC, and safety meeting records. Document the results for each individual and pass on to HR to input these results into the Safety and ERP software
  • Review applicable SJP, SWP, and JSA with field employees as they conduct their work
  • Hold on-site safety meetings as appropriate and provide documentation of same. Train all field staff to ensure they are competent in holding their own safety meetings and documenting them
  • Perform field safety inspections of equipment, fire extinguishers, shacks, etc.; and document same
  • Demonstrate and train field staff on good housekeeping standards on job sites.
  • Ensure field employees are familiar with all on-site / customer specific safety procedures and practices, including but not limited to Emergency Response Plans, H2S codes of practice etc.
  • Gather and compile information for incident investigations and provide same to H&S Manager
  • Conduct safety stand down meetings when required, post-incident
  • Follow up/closeout near misses and incidents as required by H&S Manager
  • Understand, implement and enforce the following:
    • In-house safety program
    • Alberta / Canada DOT acts and regulations
    • Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia Occupational Health and Safety Acts, Codes and Regulations
    • Customer safety programs, policies and applicable rules
  • Regularly check in with the H&S Manager to determine activities for a specified period of time. Prepare for field visits by liaising with Safety staff to determine what deficiencies are present with staff to be reviewed
  • At the end of every day, email a report on the day’s activities to the H&S Manager; outlining employees visited and results of visits
  • Check the shack, work site, truck, etc; use the checklist provided to document the results and make recommendations as required
  • Check to ensure there are two fire extinguishers in every truck and one fire extinguisher in every shack and there is a first aid kit in every truck and shack
  • Ensure the trucks have the following documents: truck binder, safety binder, MSDS binder
  • Ensure the trucks (driver’s side window) and shack both have inspection stickers
  • Ask drivers for outstanding paperwork, going by the chase sheets from Safety and Administration
    • When received paperwork, review it to make sure it is 100% complete and correct before you leave site
    • If there are issues, work with the driver to fix the paperwork while on site
    • Ask if drivers have any issues / questions with paperwork that they need help with
  • Remind drivers to do hazard assessments on each shift
  • Discipline as necessary with following company’s discipline policy
  • Ensure truck is always fully stocked with paperwork, extra PPE, spare first aid kit; and so on to supply depleted stocks on site as needed
  • Recognize drivers who are doing a good job. This can be verbal, comments on the checklist, or corporate swag (company merchandise, gift cards.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Must be prepared to respond to emergencies and breakdowns 24/7; must be legally able to drive at any time while on shift
  • Must wear proper PPE as per the safety program, always
  • This is an extremely fast paced environment
  • Must be willing to work as a flexible member of a growing department
  • Work is located in the office & in the field, must be prepared & dressed for the weather at all times
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be NCSO Certified
  • Familiar with governmental legislation and regulations as it pertains to tasks and Health & Safety
  • A class 1 or 3 license with experience with semi-trucks, heavy equipment etc. would be a strong asset
  • Proficient in completing Hazard Assessments, Accident Investigations and Root Cause Analysis
  • Thorough knowledge of the company principles, policies and procedures
  • Read maps and use GPS to find sites
  • Must be able to pay attention to detail and surroundings and use judgment as to when to report to specific departments on issues and incidents
  • Must know when to coach, train, constructively criticize, and discipline; as well as how to motivate and support employees in the field
  • Able to work independently; but know when to communicate if you need help
  • Exceptional customer service skills in working with anyone onsite: Consultants, Rig Managers and Environmentalists etc.
  • Must be able to work with people from all backgrounds and different personalities; to establish rapport and build relationships quickly
  • Able to lead by example to demonstrate professionalism
  • Professional presentation, interpersonal and communication skills
