We strive to provide our employees with meaningful and challenging work, and an engaging and collaborative environment.Michels Canada headquarters is based in Nisku, Alberta, Canada.DESCRIPTIONMichels Canada is looking for a new Legal Counsel for our inhouse legal advisory team. The successful candidate will be performing a wide range of tasks and support business priorities in a fast-paced environment. This position will be based in our Canadian Head office located in Nisku, AB.RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety and environmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Perform pre-litigation work and manage claims to minimize risks and maximize legal rights.
  • Research, analyze and advise Departments and Divisions on legal issues and risks, agreement structures, approval processes, and company policies.
  • Research and interpret various legal and regulatory requirements and inform and update appropriate parties in other departments.
  • Draft, review and negotiate construction contracts with third parties.
  • Keeps abreast of legislative changes that may affect the company and its affiliates.
  • Provides training to company and its affiliates on substantive legal topics.
  • Co-ordinate with outside legal counsel.
  • Manage and prioritize files to meet objectives and deadlines.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Member in good standing with the Law Society in your provincial jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of 3 years post call legal experience.
  • Must have experience working with commercial law; experience in construction industry is an asset.
DESIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
  • Practical problem-solving skills are a must.
  • Communicates effectively, can influence or persuade others while maintaining strong relationships.
  • Must have experience working within commercial or contract law environment.
  • Solutions oriented; offers advice and doesn’t come across as a “No” person.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment
EDUCATION
  • LLB or JD from accredited law school
LANGUAGES
  • Fluency in English is required
