Job Description

Logistics Specialist This position can either be based out of Nisku, Alberta or Oakville, OntarioPurpose of the positionReporting into the COO, the Logistics Specialist will manage the complete logistics function for the Western Region and provide support as needed to the Eastern Region. The Logistics Specialist is expected to build and maintain relationships with various transportation companies, customs authorities, customs brokers and will work closely with management, and the sales and operations teams.What you will do:

  • Work closely with Operations to achieve cost effective and timely delivery
  • Interface with various customs agencies, government agencies, customs brokers, consultants, and logistics service providers to ensure proper declarations and data is provided
  • Manage & maintain the origination process and records for Manufacturer’s Affidavits, USMCA, other Trade Agreements, Certificates of Origins, etc.
  • Coordination of incoming shipments and communicate arrival dates. Monitor shipments and advise of any delays or issues in the logistics process. Troubleshoot and resolve any issues encountered.
  • Confirm receipt of goods, the condition of the goods, along with all paperwork, certificates, invoices, packing slips, Bills of Ladings, and other required information.
  • Source new freight companies and receive quotes for rate comparisons
  • Negotiate pricing and terms, manage carrier scorecards appropriately to maximize efficiency and optimize costs
  • Measure and improve logistics processes to deliver supply chain KPI targets On-Time Delivery %, cost, carrier performance, etc.)
  • Assist with the development of, and implementation of corporate global customs compliance and security programs to ensure compliance with federal and international customs regulations, company policies and procedures, and internal and external controls
  • Provides internal coaching and keeps management, sales, and operations informed on all issues relating to logistics including customs regulations, policies, procedures and internal/external controls required to ensure fast and efficient release of imports while remaining in compliance with laws and governing legislation.
  • Work with Corpac accounting team to maintain accurate information on Accounts Payable & Accounts rates and account balances
  • Work with carriers, accounting team on charge backs, invoice discrepancies, etc. and solidify approval process to do so
What you will need to be successful:
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a logistics role with full-cycle logistics responsibilities.
  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian/US and international import/export transactions
  • Strong technical knowledge of Trade Agreements (USMCA, FTA, etc.) and International Customs legislation, compliance, and security practices
  • Experience working with FTL, LTL shipments
  • In depth knowledge of customs paperwork and processes especially for Canada-US shipments.
  • Experience with “Loadlink” and Dispatchmate” Industry platforms is required
  • Tech Savvy with superior working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products and possess the ability to learn systems quickly.
  • Exceptional negotiation, decision making and organizational skills
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills
  • good judgment and can proactively manage up where appropriate
  • Self-motivated, demonstrates a sense of urgency, and can perform well under pressure
  • Is highly organized and works effectively with shifting priorities and rapid change.
  • Strong customer-focus with good listening and clear message transmission capabilities
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven ability to manage projects and to work collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
