We strive to provide our employees with meaningful and challenging work, and an engaging and collaborative environment.Michels Canada headquarters is based in Nisku, Alberta, Canada.DESCRIPTIONMichels Canada is looking for a Project Controls Specialist to join our world-class team in our beautiful head office in Nisku, AB! The successful candidate will be performing a wide range of responsibilities, including providing leadership, mentorship, and oversight of the Field Cost Analyst (FCA) team to support Total Cost Management for all assigned projects. The Project Controls Specialist will work closely with the Project Controls Supervisor to support a team of FCAs across all Energy projects in Canada by reviewing workload, aid in resolution of problems and allocate job duties for the FCAs. Major duties will also include providing technical guidance and training to Corporate and Project teams while assisting in the development and implementation of initiatives for project control procedures and systems. This position will be based in Nisku, AB, and will be instrumental in the successful execution of some of Canada’s largest energy infrastructure projects.RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Administer and ensure compliance with the Project Controls Plan, department procedures and project requirements.
  • Monitor costs, reporting and control services during the planning and execution phases of the projects.
  • Oversee the project schedule through regular monitoring, reporting, and ensuring project control functions are facilitated throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Measure project success throughout the planning and execution phases of the projects by reviewing progress measurement and reporting
  • Facilitate and support the FCA team with Project Change Management through planning, development, and management of changes throughout the project life cycle
  • Forecast cost accounts and schedules based on performance and remaining work during the project life cycle
  • Support training and development of Project Controls personnel through best practices, lunch and learns and other applicable training sessions
  • Assist with the development of standardized project controls procedures and processes. Conduct and complete periodic audits and reviews for process compliance.
  • Collaborate with Senior Leaders on resource planning for the continued success of the Project Controls team with cost and scheduling resources
  • Participate project reporting, such as cost and schedule reports, to ensure accuracy and all required information is captured
REQUIREMENTS
  • 8+ years of experience in a Senior Project Controls role or similar experience
  • Solid understanding of project estimating techniques and construction contract documents
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively within a culturally diverse and multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Excellent understanding of Project Management legislation project management skills and experience

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for the type(s) of vehicles which may be driven and an acceptable driving record as determined by the DOT Operations Director and Michels Legal Department
EDUCATION
  • Post-secondary education in Construction, Engineering, Finance or related discipline.
LANGUAGES
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and through written language (by hand and digitally) in English
