Job Description

What is the roleReporting to the Bridge Division Manager, this position is responsible for onsite directing, coordinating and overseeing overall project operations including the people, equipment and materials required to complete a project on time and within budget. Responsibilities include: leading and directing daily operational activities with emphasis on safety, productivity, quality and budget management. Candidate must be willing to travel to surrounding area.

  • Working with the Project Manager, plans and manages the implementation of contracts to meet or exceed the expectations and specifications/standards set, within or below costs and time lines;
  • Working closely with the project manager, owner, consultants, trade contractors, inspectors and regulatory agencies to prepare and execute project plans;
  • Implements health, safety and environmental procedures on site in accordance with legislation and company policy to ensure the safety of all workers and protection of the public;
  • Works closely with team members and decision makers to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost-effect project delivery;
  • Manages workforce, equipment, materials and trade contractors to attain targeted profit;
  • Manages and coordinates project administration, safety program compliance, maintaining excellent working relationships with employees, engineers, the owner, support services and anyone else involved in the project completion;
  • Manage and support the foremen and crews including employee relations issues, hiring, time is submitted, and anything else pertaining to the needs of the crews to do their work;
  • Monitors cost and quality control during construction;
  • Achieves project milestones by looking ahead and identifying weekly deliverables for own forces and trade contractors. Implements corrective action where necessary to catch up and meet key milestone dates;
  • Where project results and/or job costing is off target, discusses with Project Manager and Division Manager to determine the best course of action;
  • Develop and maintain a current knowledge of new and emerging industry trends, technology, equipment and techniques;
  • Identify and implement efficiencies and ways to save money. Review process improvement suggestions, implement and share viable ones;
  • Promote teamwork and morale;
  • Ensure timely and accurate communication of all information;
  • Other duties as may be assigned
QualificationsWhat do we value
  • Journeyman Carpenter an asset
  • Minimum 10 years “hands on” experience in bridge related construction and maintenance with 5 or more years in a supervisory position
  • Working knowledge of Alberta Transportation and Saskatchewan Highways bridge specifications
  • Ability to read blue prints and drawings
  • Ability to direct and organize employees and sub-contractors
  • Training in project site management
  • Construction survey experience an asset
  • Safety certifications
  • Excellent working knowledge of computers
  • Minimum Class 5 Drivers license
  • At all times, interfaces with various members of the organization in a professional, calm, helpful and courteous manner.
