Administrave Procedure P - MA - 605 Personnel Custodians/Custodial Assistants – Job Descripon Background: Procedures: 1. General Dues a. All custodians are responsible to the Director of Facilies and during school periods shall be under the general direcon of the Custodian Foreman. b. The work schedule shall be arranged with the Building & Grounds Supervisor in consultaon with the Principal. c. Custodians and Custodial Assistants shall be in aendance at the building during such hours as may be necessary to complete their dues and mes that have been set down by the Building & Grounds Supervisor. d. No employee shall employ a substute to perform his/her work. No Custodian shall place a substute person in charge of his/her school at any me.2. Care of School Property a. The custodians shall devote the enre me they are on duty to the care of the building in their charge; take every reasonable precauon for the protecon and preservaon of the building and school property; prevent any unauthorized person interfering with any part of the building or removing therefrom any property of the school division except with the permission of the principal of the school or an official of the board.3. Appearance a. Employees shall at all mes present a neat appearance.4. Damage to Building & Property a. Custodian shall report to the Building & Grounds Supervisor and Principal any damage to building, property or equipment. b. Minor Repairs i. Custodians shall make minor repairs to building and equipment.5. Authority for Repair Work a. All repairs to plumbing, heang and venlang equipment which the custodians are unable to perform, must be reported to the Building & Grounds Supervisor covering the necessary work to be performed.6. Safety a. Part of the reason for cleanliness and maintenance is the prevenon of fire, and the safety and health of all those using the facilies within the Hanover School Division.Last Review: July, 2010 Last reviewed - May 202117. General Policies a. A custodian must be absent from his dues, he must obtain permission from theBuilding & Grounds Supervisor, or in his absence, from the Custodian Foreman, and must inform the principal of his absence. b. Custodians must realize that their employment by the division must take precedence over any other occupaon in which they are engaged, and if they are unable to cope with both, they must drop one. c. Should a custodian have a complaint against any teacher or student, he should make the complaint to the principal. He should not take any disciplinary acon. d. The custodian shall not contract any bills without authorizaon from purchasing authories. e. It is the custodians duty to unlock outside doors for authorized evening acvity. f. Keys shall not be loaned out or duplicated. A strict account of his/her keys is expected of the custodian.8. Daily Cleaning a. Washrooms: i. Clean toilet and urinals. ii. Clean hand basins thoroughly. iii. Keep floors clean. iv. Wipe lower parts of washroom walls as necessary. v. Check dispensers. b. Classrooms: i. Sweep, dust-mop and spot-mop the floors. ii. Empty the wastebaskets. iii. Dust the chalkboard ledges. iv. Clean chalkboard brushes, unless the teacher and his class have a schedule for cleaning them. v. Dust furniture, ledges, window sills and other obvious areas. c. Halls, Foyers, Vesbules and Mechanical Rooms: i. Sweep and dust-mop floors in halls, foyers and vesbules. ii. When necessary, wet-mop floors in vesbules and foyers immediately aer school goes into session in the mornings and aernoons. iii. Dust-mop floors in all these areas and clean up generally to comply with fire regulaons. iv. Cleanliness in the mechanical and storage room should be comparable to cleanliness throughout the school. v. Clean the water fountains. d. Administraon Areas: i. Sweep and dust-mop floors. ii. Dust furniture and other obvious areas. e. General i. The custodian shall check doors, windows and lights upon compleon of his days work.Last Review: July, 2010 Last reviewed - May 20212ii. To open the building in the morning and check that all exit doors open and that all panic hardware is working properly. f. Weekly Cleaning i. Dust the enre school thoroughly with special aenon being paid to areas such as higher ledges, shelves, behind radiators and moveable bookshelves, corners, etc. ii. Thoroughly dust the mechanical room including all mechanical equipment, ducts, etc. g. Periodic Cleaning i. When necessary clean: Windows, glass in doors, parons, spots on floors and walls which remain aer daily cleaning. Furnace and air handling unit filters are replaced when necessary. h. Summer Cleaning i. During the summer holidays, the enre school is to receive a thorough house cleaning with special aenon being paid to walls, ceilings and student desks. i. Floor Care i. Floors are to receive special aenon. In order to preserve floors, they must be kept well waxed or covered with the proper finish at all mes. Halls and vesbule floors require more frequent waxing than do classroom and service area floors. All floors are to be washed and waxed when necessary. j. Outdoor Acvies i. Outside steps, porches, plaorms, and walks leading to the school are to be kept in repair and free from dirt, snow and ice. ii. Weeds and grass around the building are to be kept cut short. Any vegetaon in the cracks of walks and pavement is to be removed. iii. The playground is to be inspected regularly and all physical precauons should be taken to prevent accidents. The schoolyard is to be kept free of lier and other debris. iv. The flag is to be raised daily before 9:00 a.m. and lowered at 4:00 p.m. v. Lawns are to be raked in spring. Whenever needed grass clippings are to be removed. Trees and shrubs should be lled and dug around the base to avoid weeds growing in. Hand spraying for weeds should be done by a custodian.Also check roof drains periodically. vi. The enre school building is to be kept neat and dy and presentable at allmes. The custodian should take a personal pride in the buildings and grounds as though it were his own personal property. k. Other Dues i. Custodians and Custodial Assistants shall perform such other dues as may be designated by the Building & Grounds Supervisor, Custodial Foreman or thePrincipal.Last Review: July, 2010 Last reviewed - May 20213Job Type: Full-timeSalary: From $18.75 per hourBenefits:
