Job Description

Administrave Procedure - P - MA - 609 Personnel Head Custodian - Job Descripon Source Policy: The Head Custodian is responsible for maintaining the physical school plant and grounds. The expectaon is each of the schools and school grounds in the division are safe, clean, and well-maintained.PROCEDURES Reports to: Director of FaciliesJob Dues to Include :

  • Maintains harmonious relaonships with the public, staff, students and administraon.
  • Acts with integrity and diligence in carrying out all professional responsibilies.
  • Supervises and parcipates in the performance assessments of custodians, custodial aides, substutes, and casual help.
  • Monitors all custodial staff, workloads and schedules to accommodate the regular cleaning program as well as the summer cleaning schedule.
  • Conducts evaluaons and inspecons of facilies and grounds ensuring cleanliness and safety for all staff, students, and visitors.
  • Monitors usage of cleaning supplies and reorders stock as required.
  • Prepares and submits facilies reports as required.
  • Maintains, operates and implements preventave maintenance to all mechanical and building systems and related equipment such as but not limited to:
Checking sump pumps; Checking and making minor repairs to door hinges, locks, closures, door pulls, etc.; Checking emergency baeries and lights; Ensuring that the divisional fire plan requirements are met; Making vandalism reports; Replacing ceiling les; Maintaining and taking care of all tools and equipment assigned to the Custodian’ Checking crawl spaces for leaks or other problems and replace lamps/lights if burned out; Recording all maintenance performed in a Log book.
  • Acvates and deacvates alarms as required.
  • Ensures building security.
  • Sets up and removes the flag as required.
  • Performs cleaning dues by sweeping, washing, scrubbing, waxing, buffing, cleaning washrooms, stairs, dusng, emptying waste receptacles, cleaning glass, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, washing furniture, and changing and washing lamps and fixtures.
  • Maintains grounds by shoveling snow, sweeping walkways, stairs and entrances, cleaning up debris, and cung grass (if required).
  • Assists with orientaon and training of custodial staff.
  • Assists with performance assessment of staff.
  • Adheres to all relevant divisional policies and procedures, and promotes and contributes to a safe working environment.

  • Wears and maintains any Personal Protecve Equipment that is required.
  • Set up and remove, staging, tables, chairs, etc.
  • Performs other related dues as may be required.
Daily Responsibilies
  • The Custodian is to evaluate the school from a safety and operaons standpoint. It is important to ensure that all life safety systems are operaonal, all doorways and exits are clear of any obstrucons, and any deficiencies are immediately reported to the Director of Facilies or school principal.
  • Each morning a walkthrough of the school is done to ensure that the evening staff provided the appropriate cleaning of the areas they are assigned work.
  • The custodian is expected to be visible in the building at all mes. When out of visual contact aending to maintenance responsibilies they should advise the school principal of where they will be in the building, or if outside of the building, and for how long.
Preferred Qualificaons to Include :
  • Ability to understand and follow wrien and verbal instrucons.
  • Ability to respond effecvely to the public, students, and school and divisional staff.
  • Good communicaon and organizaonal skills.
  • Ability to operate power and manual cleaning equipment and tools.
  • Ability to work effecvely as a team member and with lile supervision.
  • Ability to keep accurate records.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills (G-mail)
Performance review will be done by the Custodian Foreman with input / feedback requested and provided by the school principal. Each fall a startup meeng will take place with the Head Custodian,Custodial Foreman and the Principal to discuss any concerns / opportunies for the coming school year and ongoing communicaon.Job Type: Full-timeSalary: From $22.40 per hourBenefits:
