Job Description

The Heritage Life Retirement Living Housekeeping Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness of various public areas, offices, guest rooms, as well as resident cleaning in the Heritage Life Retirement Living building.Key Objectives:

  • Work in a manner that respects the home of the residents where we have a privilege of working in.
  • To do the best of one’s ability to accomplish the duties expected.
  • To make an extra effort as may be needed.
Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and skill in using equipment and tools necessary for cleaning.
  • Understand the proper use of chemicals and various cleaning products.
  • Work effectively in and around the public.
  • Must be available to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday each week.
Duties:
  • General cleaning of guest suites, following the procedures and expectations as required for each suite being cleaned as outlined.
  • This includes bathrooms, kitchenette area, and general bedroom area.
  • Wiping down all surfaces.
  • Cleaning mirrors, T.V’s.
  • Sanitizing bathrooms.
  • Changing linens.
  • Vacuuming carpet area.
  • Spot cleaning walls.
  • General cleaning of Heritage Life common areas, following the procedures and expectations as required for each area being cleaned as outlined.
  • This includes public washrooms, offices, common rooms, meeting rooms, hallways and gym.

  • Dusting, cleaning and moping of offices, common rooms and meeting rooms.
  • Sweeping, mopping entrance ways.
  • Cleaning equipment, dusting, sweeping, moping of the gym.
  • Empty garbage and recycling bins from all public areas.
  • Resident suite cleaning if requested by resident.
  • Stocking of the housekeeping storage room.
  • Follow the weekly cleaning schedule as well as the outlined monthly cleaning requirements.
  • Pick up and clean up any messes noted in public spaces.
  • Report matters as per procedure that need attention for repair to the Department Leader as quickly as possible. In cases of emergency such as water leaks these are to be reported immediately as per procedure.
General Expectations
  • Cleaning of Residents personal property will need to be cleared by the Department Leader unless it is on the cleaning schedule already approved for that resident/suite.
  • Checking and replenishing items on the housekeeping cart at the beginning of the shift.
  • Check all items on the housekeeping cart at the end of the shift and replenish as necessary.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, lift, carry and stoop.
  • Required to use hands to handle objects.
  • Occasionally required to do light lifting (up to 30 lbs.).
  • Hazards may include, but are not limited to, falling, slipping and tripping.
  • Know the procedures for handling or managing chemical injuries.
  • Know the procedures to for filing any injury claims including internal reports as well as reports to WCB Manitoba.
General Requirements:
  • To act in accordance with Niverville Heritage Centre Values, Policies and Procedures at all times.
  • To attend meetings and training and development as required.
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • To carry out any reasonable and additional duties as requested.
  • To attend occasional evening meetings with committees as required. To be aware of all WHMIS guidelines.
  • To be aware of and comply with safe working practices as laid down by the Health and Safety Act of Manitoba
