Job Description

What can I expect to do in this role

  • Assist with planning, coordinating, implementing and monitoring technical and operational activities for lands, waters, aggregates, and other resource management program activities in the district.
  • Activities will involve assisting with dam management, processing applications under various pieces of legislation (e.g. Public Lands Act, Lakes and Rivers Improvement Act), verifying land ownership; and processing land tenure documents.
  • Communicate resource management program information to the public, clients, resource industries, attend meetings, draft correspondence and respond requests for information regarding Crown land.
How do I qualifyKnowledge:
  • Knowledge of lands and waters related legislation and regulations (e.g. Public Lands Act, Beds of Navigable Waters Act, Lakes and Rivers Improvement Act) to participate in long range planning processes, provide technical support and advice to staff and clients on matters such as land ownership and tenure, Crown land surveys, and licencing & permitting requirements.
  • Knowledge and skills to interpret ministry policies, procedures, guidelines, and manuals (e.g. Public Lands Policy manual) to ensure various resource operations comply with provincial standards and ecological sustainability.
  • Knowledge of field operations and techniques (e.g. inspections, title administration, surveys, appraisals)
  • Knowledge of enforcement and compliance procedures to conduct operational audits of individual clients.
Analytical and Research Skills:
  • Problem solving and analytical skills to assist with the review and assessment of data (licence/permit applications, consultant reports, public issues etc.) in order to ensure licence/permit applications are complete and consistent with the Provincial Standards and applicable legislation, regulations and policies.
Interpersonal, Verbal and Written Communications Skills
  • Tact and good judgment to effectively communicate with a variety of staff, agency representatives, clients and industry stakeholders, and the general public, to promote the understanding of applicable legislation/regulations/policies, address compliance issues, discuss sensitive resource decisions, assist with the preparation of briefing notes, and to write technical reports.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment to interact with staff, members of industry, stakeholder groups, resource users and the public.
Computer Skills:
  • Working knowledge of computer software packages including MS-Excel, MS Word, MS Access, and GIS;

  • Proof of eligibility to work in Canada;
  • Has graduated or will graduate from an approved or legally authorized college or university with a degree, postgraduate certificate or diploma within the last four years;
  • Candidates are only eligible to participate in one NDMNRF 12-month placement and must not have participated in the NDMNRF internship program in the past.
