Job Description

The Actuarial Associate contributes to achieving business financial and risk management goals by providing advanced actuarial support and analysis and developing solutions for a functional area with a focus on pricing, valuation, risk management, capital management and/or financial planning. The incumbent is guided by defined goals and objectives, and works under the general direction of a Director or Vice-President.Responsibilities

  • Develop, execute and analyze complex actuarial processes and models to support the functional area
  • Under the direction of senior team members, research and analyze actuarial issues, methods and solutions to support business strategy development
  • Provide support and advice to junior team members to aid in development of the team
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of actuarial programs
  • Commitment to attain Fellowship designation through the Society of Actuaries and/or Canadian Institute of Actuaries or equivalent experience, and continuing professional development including business knowledge development, to support career progression and role competency in sustaining the company’s pool of actuarial resources
Skills / Knowledge / Education
  • Advanced mathematical and programming skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced research, analysis and decision-making skills
  • Ability to develop and negotiate innovative solutions
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage competing priorities
  • Advanced working knowledge of spreadsheet, database and word processing software
  • Advanced working knowledge of actuarial applications (AXIS, Atlas, etc.)
  • 4 – 6 years of relevant work experience in the insurance/financial services industry
  • Completion of a university degree with courses in mathematics, economics and/or business
  • Completion of ASA and/or ACIA designation
