Employees will be required to provide proof of vaccination at the time of hire.Posting Date:December 19, 2022Closing Date:January 2, 2023Pay Range:Payband J - $39.15 - $45.38 (Start rate: $39.15)Hours:35 hours per weekWork Type:HybridType:ContractShift:Monday to Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PMStart Date:End Date:Position Summary:Under the direction of the Manager, Learning Centres, the Learning Centre Coordinator provides academic support to students through the development of learning resources, coordinating peer and/or learning programs, delivering 1:1 support (in related background field) to students directly, and scheduling learning support services (SLG, Strive program, workshops and tutoring). Through outreach to the academic programs as well as working with students, the Learning Centre Coordinator will ensure the supports suit the needs of stakeholders and fit within the scope of the Learning Centre service model delivery.This position home campus will be the Seneca at York location. However, Inter – campus travel is required.Responsibilities:Coordination and Delivery of Academic Support Programs

  • Explores ways to target certain populations to achieve academic success that contribute to retention initiatives and graduation rate improvement.
  • Brings forward innovative suggestions / ideas to improve the effective and efficient delivery of LC programs based on latest trends in Learning Centres.
  • Liaises with program coordinators and faculty, in conjunction with Manager, Learning Centres, to conduct necessary outreach and develop supports.
  • Develops, coordinates and facilitates workshops in areas such as English/writing, conversation clubs, critical thinking, math, computers and/or study/learning skills.
  • Tutors and coaches students in relevant subject areas (e.g. English, Math, Study Skills, Learning Theories, etc.) based on need.
  • Conducts outreach with Seneca stakeholders and recommends and co-develops new and existing Learning Centre programs and services, alongside colleagues, to ensure student retention initiatives and relevant learning support practices.
Recruitment and Mentoring of Student (Peer) Employees
  • Analyzes staffing needs and recruits (hires and interviews) peer tutors/leaders/coaches, in consultation with the Manager.
  • Develops and delivers training in-person and online to peer tutors/leaders/coaches and other student staff and administers assessment tools for training feedback.
  • Prepares student employee work schedules and recommends changes required to support student needs, in consultation with the Manager, Learning Centres and other colleagues.
  • Acts as the first point of contact for problems and performance issues from students with respect to the peer employees, group learning programs, and workshops.
  • Ensures that the student employees’ conduct, while tutoring, coaching, or facilitating workshops and group learning sessions, is in accordance with College standards and policies.
Implementation of Learning Resources Using Technology
  • Conducts work and program development via videoconferencing and collaboration platforms such as Zoom, WebEx and Teams.
  • Uses Seneca systems, including Learning Centre booking system, i3 and related Intranet platforms to conduct work tasks and organize learning supports for students.
  • Works with MS office to gather and report on Learning Centre services, especially SharePoint, Excel and Access.
  • Uses applicable learning management systems and other educational technologies to organize and develop Learning Centre services.
Other
  • Provides on demand front desk customer service to students, faculty and other visitors to the Learning Centre.
  • Provides administrative support to the Learning Centre.
Qualifications:Education
  • Minimum completed four (4) year degree in Education, English, Liberal Studies, Communications, Psychology, Social Sciences, Science, or Mathematics. If in a related field, please state how it is relevant.
  • Supplemental instruction training is an asset.
Experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in tutoring, advising, or developing educational resources.
  • Experience instructing or delivering workshops to students.
  • Experience with assessment of learning programs and coaching/mentoring student staff.
  • Advanced knowledge of the educational needs and barriers of diverse students, including students with special needs, adult learners, non-traditional students, new Canadians and ELL students
  • Previous experience in adult independent learning, advising, and developing/delivering workshops to students is an asset.
Skills
  • Excellent project management, facilitation, organizational, attention to detail, and time management skills are required.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are required to determine alternative solutions, anticipate or prevent problems, and to assess and design effective changes.
  • Strong presentation, communication and active listening skills.
  • Advanced technical and computer skills in Videoconferencing and collaboration platforms (e.g. Zoom, WebEx and Teams), Seneca systems, including Learning Centre booking system, i3 and related Intranet platforms.
  • Advanced MS office skills, especially in SharePoint, Excel and Access, and Learning management systems and other educational technologies
  • A valid drivers license and access to reliable vehicle is required.
Note: A skills assessment test will be administered during the recruitment process.A combination of relevant experience and education may be considered as equivalent to the above requirements in the event that there are no internal applicants that meet the qualifications as posted.
