Are you ready to join usWhat we need:This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a strong customer service focus to be a part of the interprofessional team. As an integral member of our team and working in partnership with the Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses, you will support patient care in an environment where the focus is quality and patient/family centred care with a strong emphasis on customer satisfaction. As an effective team member you will utilize your strong communication skills and be actively involved in Quality Management initiatives.Patient Care Support responsibilities will include:Assistance with close observation of patient needs; including monitoring patient comfort levelAssistance with basic patient care as directed by the Nurse (i.e. bathing, nutrition, positioning and ambulation)Assist with patient moves and transfersAssistance with room set upEmpty and change suction bottles as directed by the Nurse and provide and remove bed pans as delegatedAssist with post mortem careCommunication with patients/families to increase customer serviceNon-Patient Care Support responsibilities will include:Stocking treatment areas and cartsMaintaining linen supplies and cleanliness of the patient rooms (for admission and discharge), utility rooms, nursing station, tub and shower rooms and patient care equipmentAssistance with responding to call bellsOther duties as assignedWork Schedule:The successful candidate will rotate 12 hour day (7:30am to 7:30pm) and night shifts (7:30pm to 7:30am) during the week as well as on weekends. Please note that schedules are subject to change based on operational needs.Compensation:Band CU01a: $22.30 - $24.69 per hourPhysical Demands:Frequent moderate and heavy exertion (e.g. pushing stretchers, wheelchairs, etc.)Lifting over 60 lbs.What you bring to MSH:Completion of a recognized personal support worker certificate or health care aide program from a community college or equivalent education requiredCurrent BCLS certificationPrevious related experience, preferably in an acute care facilityPrevious experience with responsive behavioursProficient computer skillsKnowledge of universal precautions and medical terminology an assetStrong customer service, interpersonal and written and verbal communication skillsDemonstrated ability to work well independently and as part of an interprofessional teamStrong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workloadDemonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standardsDemonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as requiredMarkham Stouffville Hospital takes pride in serving some of Canada’s most diverse communities.
