Do you want an exciting career supporting an accessible, fair, timely and effective justice system for Ontarians Consider joining the Ministry of the Attorney General, Court Services Division where we offer an extensive training program to teach you everything you need to know to be successful in one of our various Court Services roles.We have an ongoing need to recruit for short-term entry level, irregularly scheduled fixed term contracts of less than 6 months in duration based on operational needs. These are ideal opportunities to launch your career within Court Services Division and the Ontario Public Service.   • These positions are irregularly scheduled, working 0 to 36.25 hours per week based on operational requirements. There is no minimum guaranteed number of hours per week, but it is not uncommon for some sites to average 20-30+ hours per week. Schedules are set in advance of the work week.

Refer to the "How to apply" section if you require a disability-related accommodation.What can I expect to do in this roleBased on your training, qualifications, experience, and geographic preferences, you may be contacted for either a Court Services Officer, Court Reporter, Court Clerk/Registrar or Court and Client Representative role.How do I qualifyCourt Services Officer ($786.59 - $892.36 per week)
  • Responsible for ensuring courtroom readiness
  • Maintain proper decorum in the court
  • Conduct jury roll calls
  • Call and escort witnesses into court
  • Attend to juries
  • Provide assistance to the public
  • Provide assistance to the judiciary as required.
Court Reporter ($828.96 - $971.70 per week)
  • Prepare and maintain courtrooms for proceedings
  • Accurate digital note taking
  • Ensure the security and quality of the court recordings throughout the day
  • Prepare and maintain decorum in the virtual/courtroom for proceedings
  • Support virtual/remote hearings by coordinating and monitoring entry and exit of participants from the virtual courtroom, displaying electronic documents/exhibits
  • Respond to inquiries and provide instruction to clients relating to the recording of proceedings
Court Clerk/Registrar ($24.77 - $28.80 per hour)
  • Complete pre-court, in-court, and post-court work for virtual and courtroom proceedings
  • Prepare, present and check all court documents, ensuring accuracy and completion
  • Ensure all virtual and courtroom technology is in working order at all times
  • Maintain order and decorum in the courtroom for both in-person and virtual hearings
  • Coordinate and manage the jury panel and all jury related duties
  • Receive and process bail monies or property and secure according to establish protocols
  • Prepare dockets and court documents for Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) Court from information received
Court and Client Representative ($25.89 - $30.18 per hour)
  • Ensure all court work is completed and maintain order and decorum for in-person and virtual hearings
  • Prepare, present, check all court documents, ensuring accuracy and completion
  • Ensure all virtual and courtroom technology is in working order at all times
  • Liaise with various court staff, stakeholders and judiciary to ensure proper case-flow
  • Ensure all proceedings are recorded and annotated in accordance with legislative requirements, ministry guidelines and standards and recordings are secure and safeguarded
  • Coordinate and manage the jury panel and all jury related duties
  • Input, update and list court information and filings into manual or computerized systems, generate reports
  • Provide advice and guidance to clients in accordance with legislation, rules, procedures and policy
  • Ensure accuracy and completion of all filings and that timelines are adhered to
  • Receive and process payouts for fines, fees, restitution and reconcile/balance accounts
  • Issue invoices and write correspondence
  • Assist with exhibit management and managing current and archival files

  • Valid Drivers License within the Province of Ontario, where required
  • Availability to work on weekend and statutory holidays, where required
  • Travel to other court locations and in small aircraft (as required), or when scheduled at other locations, where required
  • Typing and fully programmable word processing skills to 30wpm
  • For designated bilingual positions only: Oral and Written French language skills
