This is an ideal position for someone with strong leadership and client service abilities. Someone who is keen to enjoy work/life balance and be recognized for their hard work. The successful candidate will have completed the in-depth Tax Course and thrives in a collaborative team environment.Working closely with the Tax Partner and tax team, much of your work will be for Canadian Controlled Private corporations and their shareholders, ensuring clients receive high-quality tax service. You’ll be responsible for managing multiple tax engagements by advising clients on tax strategies and executing those strategies with the assistance of the tax team. Utilizing your excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you be responsible for explaining moderate to complex tax matters to clients in a simple and easily understood manner. You’ll be responsible for maintaining quality control standards of tax work.Specifically, you will:
  • Provide guidance and assistance to staff and clients on planning opportunities, tax minimization strategies, and advanced compliance issues
  • Organize and execute client tax engagements while acting as a trusted business advisor
  • Identify and recommend detailed solutions for moderate tax issues
  • Review tax returns and working paper documentation
  • Proactively manage tax engagement billings
  • Work on reorganization projects, including planning and researching technical issues, etc.
  • Assist other professionals within the firm with tax support on their client files such as CRA reviews/audits
  • Provide daily guidance, coaching and support to the tax team as they develop and grow their knowledge and skill levels
  • Create and implement reorganization strategies for clients including, family trust implementations, shareholder modifications, readying companies for sale, etc.
  • Provide tax solutions related to mergers and acquisitions including tax optimization, planning purchase planning, cash flow optimization for purchase and financing repayment, planning for capital gain exemption
  • Work with clients to assist with areas such as estate planning, US and cross border planning, and work with professional clients that have specific tax needs
  • Keep up with industry trends. Research and interpret tax legislation and compliance overview such as CDA, foreign reporting, develop strategies, and share knowledge and best approaches with the team
The DetailsThis is a full-time, permanent position, working Monday to Friday, during core business hours, with extra hours required during the peak season. They offer a competitive salary, commensurate with experience. You will also receive a comprehensive company/performance-based bonus, benefits package, vacation, and a laptop.   • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related discipline
  • CPA designation
  • Completion of the in-depth Tax Course
  • 3-5+ years of progressive public accounting, including meaningful tax planning experience
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of increasingly complex tax concepts
  • Ability to provide high-level client service skills and genuine appreciation of a client-focused environment including the ability to meet deadlines
  • Experience with Excel and tax preparation software required
