Job Description

Days Inn Orillia is a 78-room property with meeting space, located across the street from Casinorama, close to the shores of Lake Couchiching.The General Manager is responsible for all aspects of day-to-day operations of the Hotel including managing general property performance and profitability, revenue management, as well as leads Team Members in the development and implementation of service strategies and brand initiatives within established company and brand standards to provide exemplary guest satisfaction.Reporting directly to property Ownership, the General Manager is an accountable, hands-on, strategic leader who makes key decisions and oversees their execution, while using an innovative approach to formulate and execute strategic and business goals.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Direct accountability for Hotel sales and revenue management strategy and implementation;
  • Manages the operations of the Hotel to maximize profitability while facilitating superior guest service and product quality while meeting brand standards;
  • Surveys, reviews and analyzes competition, market trends, customer needs and comments in order to be proactive and adapt with business intelligence;
  • Collaborates with Ownership to develop, recommend, implement and manage the Hotel’s annual and long-term operations, sales and marketing, capital, revenue, expense and profit goals to meet/exceed corporate management expectations;
  • Manages the financial goals of the business including reviewing and analyzing key performance indicators, financial reporting and capital expenditure to ensure effective cost and control and profitability;
  • Drives sales through active involvement in the marketing process, evaluating guest mix and competitive set, and recommending appropriate product/service and operational changes as necessary;
  • Enforces and maintains a preventative maintenance program for the property to ensure employee and guest safety consistent and systematic operations, good appearance and compliance with both brand and legislative standards;
  • Maintain product and service quality standards by conducting ongoing evaluations and investigating complaints. Initiates corrective action when required;
  • Recruits, trains, coaches, motivates, disciplines and develops Team Members, while maximizing employee engagement and evaluating direct-reports. Provides leadership and management of all departments, by creating a warm and friendly work environment for staff including the fair and speedy resolution of employee concerns and issues;
  • Responsible for adherence to policies and procedures as set forth by the Company, as well as ensure compliance with all provincial and federal legislation relating to employment and labour regulations, health and safety;
  • Liaises with community and professional organizations to maintain visibility within the market through establishing and maintenance of relationships with local organizations by participating in meetings and driving social media and local e-commerce efforts;
  • Provides relief and serves as backup as needed at the Hotel (ie, Front Desk coverage, housekeeping, etc) to ensure the optimum operation of the property;
  • Manages hotel facilities to ensure the proper functioning of internal systems, taking an active role in overseeing contractor servicing and problem resolution;
  • Coordinates and manages the maintenance of property-owned lots in the vicinity of the Hotel.
Desired Skills and Experience· The potential candidate should present a minimum of 5 or more years’ experience as a member of a hotel senior leadership team in a comparable hotel or setting, with demonstrated ability to take responsibility for financial results· College / University diploma from a recognized hospitality program an asset.· Career profile should include functional experience in Sales, Marketing, and Revenue management, as well as Guest Services and a hands-on approach· Thorough knowledge of all aspects of hotel operations· Proven track record in revenue management, exceeding market share and sales targets thorough understanding of profit and loss management, revenue management and pricing strategies, marketing· Working knowledge in the development of strategic plans, operating and capital budgets and planning· Solid proficiency with Microsoft Office® applications· Prior experience with Synxis reservations management system is an asset· Orillia, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)Personal Characteristics: Alert; confident; commanding presence; high energy level combined with strong work ethic; articulate with fine presentation skills; well organized with sense of urgency and priorities; a discriminating eye for detail; adaptable; accepting of feedback; leader and motivator of staff; strong counseling and training skills; quality perceptive; highly interactive with team members and guests; a sense of style and taste.
