Job Description

The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Commander of Highway Safety Division is seeking a qualified individual to provide financial, clerical and administrative services to the Highway Safety Division Program Administration.About Us:The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North Americas largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. We provide essential services that ensure the safety and security of the people of the Province of Ontario. The OPP is a division of the Ministry of the Solicitor General, the largest operational ministry in the province with a presence in every community across Ontario. We are the largest police service in Ontario and the second largest in Canada.The Highway Safety Division (HSD) incorporates the Provincial Traffic Operations (PTO), five Greater Toronto Area (GTA)/Golden Horseshoe Detachments and dedicated full time deployed traffic units located in North West, North East, West, East and Central Regions. HSD consists of approximately 650 Uniform and Civilian members and is responsible for a patrol area of 139,047 kilometers of highway, waterways and trails.The OPP Values promote always doing the right things for the right reasons, by:

  • Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
  • Ability to obtain FLS certification - French verbal advanced.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge and understanding of financial and administrative policies, procedures and processes and financial administration.
  • Knowledge of basic government accounting, accrual accounting and financial encumbrances to prepare and process financial transactions and review budgets.
  • Mathematical skills to perform calculations and check for accuracy of expenses; process accounts payable/receivable; and review budgets.
  • Knowledge of the procurement process and purchasing procedures for transacting paperwork related to the procurement process and for processing and reconciling purchases of goods and services.
  • Knowledge of and skill in computer operations, keyboarding and software, e.g. Ministry IFIS, CORPAY system, Accountable Advance System, to input data, update and maintain financial records/files, and produce ad hoc and regular financial reports. Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint to type correspondence, prepare presentations and produce financial/statistical reports.
  • Interpersonal skills and abilities to work in a team environment.
  • Oral communication to explain processes and procedures, providing information/clarification on financial transactions, reconciliations and reports.
  • Written communications skills to prepare documents, reports and correspondence.
