Job Description

The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Commander of Central Region is seeking a qualified individual to provide financial, clerical and administrative services to the Regional Headquarters.About Us:The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North Americas largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. We provide essential services that ensure the safety and security of the people of the Province of Ontario. The OPP is a division of the Ministry of the Solicitor General, the largest operational ministry in the province with a presence in every community across Ontario. We are the largest police service in Ontario and the second largest in Canada.Within its boundaries of approximately 29,790 square kilometers, which encompass 24,510 square kilometers of land and 5,280 square kilometers of water, Central Region provides professional policing services through 13 community detachments. Central Region extends from the District of Muskoka in the north to Lake Ontario in the south; from Dufferin County in the west to Northumberland County in the east. Central Region includes 1,874 kilometers of Kings Highway, as well as 22,188 kilometers of secondary roads.Central Region is responsible to provide policing services to a population of approximately 523,000 people; however, the population fluctuates and swells throughout the year as Central Region is a vacation destination for the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The overall population continues to grow in Central Region, especially in areas including, but not limited to, Orillia, Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Peterborough, and Northumberland.The OPP Values promote always doing the right things for the right reasons, by:

  • Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
  • French Language Skill certification - Oral and written French at an advanced level
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Knowledge and understanding financial and administrative policies, procedures, processes and relevant provincial legislation, to perform financial, administrative and clerical duties.Knowledge of basic accounting, procurement process, and purchasing procedures to complete basic administrative tasks related to financial transactions, reconciliations, and reports.Mathematical skills to perform calculations, check for accuracy of expenses, and process accounts payable/receivable.Knowledge of and skill in computer operations, keyboarding and software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to input data, update and maintain financial records/files, produce ad hoc and regular financial reports, type correspondence, and prepare presentations.Oral communication and interpersonal skills to explain processes, provide information to resolve discrepancies, and collaborate with key stakeholders on financial matters.Strong written communication skills to take minutes at meetings, prepare documents, reports, and correspondence.Ability to identify and analyze the nature of enquiries or calls, some of which are confidential and/or sensitive in nature and determine how best to respond or refer to uniformed officer or various other personnel.Ability to exercise discretion, tact and diplomacy when dealing with others; handling and composing confidential letters/memorandum/reports; and when responding to enquiries over the phone and counter.Additional Information:Ensure that you read the job description to make sure you understand this job.
