Job Description

The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Security Bureau Commander are seeking a collaborative leader to join our Security Enquiries Unit. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will plan, manage and coordinate a program or service operation within a key ministry program area, and provide leadership and supervision to a team ofspecialists in delivering programs and services.About Us:The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North Americas largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. We provide essential services that ensure the safety and security of the people of the Province of Ontario. The OPP is a division of the Ministry of the Solicitor General, the largest operational ministry in the province with a presence in every community across Ontario. We are the largest police service in Ontario and the second largest in Canada.The Security Enquiries Unit delivers a professional service to our stakeholders by providing timely, current, credible and accurate information, regarding an applicants personal history, allowing stakeholders to make an informed decision about the applicant that will have a positive impact on public safety and security.The unit conducts police record checks for many different clients including other Ministries, arms length government agencies and law enforcement agencies.The unit has an investigative compliment that conduct in depth security clearance investigations. The investigations include searches of various databanks such as CPIC, NICHE, Police Information Portal, Local Police records, Immigration, Equifax and Internet searches. The investigations are completed for all new recruit applicants and civilian employees of the OPP, Contractors, Justice Technology Systems employees, and High Level Government appointments.The OPP Values promote always doing the right things for the right reasons, by:

  • Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Manages its team(s) by communicating values, strategies, expectations, and promotes an engaged and inclusive environment.
  • Identifies and recommends staffing needs, conducts recruitment and selection activities, manages orientation/training, develops remedial plans; addresses employee/labour relations/employee matters.
  • Plans and manages all facets of projects, or program or service operations, providing technical expertise, and sound business and program and project planning and evaluation techniques to achieve program deliverables and ensure that legislative responsibilities and mandated program delivery goals and timelines are achieved.
  • Coordinates consultation and advisory meetings relating to program/service initiative with external and internal stakeholders, partners and consultants.
  • Ministry strategic directions, policies, programs and service delivery models, to provide operational management of a program area, service or initiative, to determine and plan for program resource requirements and to ensure alignment of programs / projects with corporate, division and branch goals and objectives.
  • Theories, principles, and practices of a specialized field of expertise to provide advice to senior management and subject expertise in planning and managing program operations, to identify, analyze and resolve issues related to specific program matters, and to develop and recommend operational policy improvements.
Additional Information:At this time, all employees working in congregate living settings are required to provide proof they are fully vaccinated, meaning they are fully vaccinated as defined by the Ministry of Health (refer to:COVID-19 Fully Vaccinated Status in Ontario, including 14 calendar days have passed since receiving their final dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.Employees who do not provide proof of full vaccination will be deemed ‘not vaccinated under the Employers policy and will be required to attend a vaccine education program, as determined by the Employer.
