Job Description

  • Reports to the Housing Support Manager
  • Provide support onsite to 20 supportive housing units with 1-2 participants per unit
  • Are responsible for collaborating with the Participants to work through their goals
  • Assist with development and implementation of Participant programming
  • Strengthen and maintain community engagement and partnerships
  • Keep safety at the forefront
  • Maintain accurate reports as needed

  • Training in social services is most desirable
  • Able to provide a satisfactory criminal reference check – vulnerable screening sector
  • Experience working with vulnerable or at risk individuals in the area of disabilities, mental health issues, homeless, poverty, preferred
  • Clean valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle an asset
  • Lived experience with homelessness/poverty an asset
Skills:
  • High standard of integrity, judgement and confidentiality
  • Calm manner with the ability to de-escalate situations
  • Strong sense of boundaries and self awareness
  • Working knowledge of community resources
  • Computer literacy - Google Docs
  • Strong English language communication skills
  • Understanding of conflict resolution,
  • Strong advocacy skills
  • Aligned with the values of harm reduction
  • Able to work from a person-centered approach
  • Understanding of trauma and its impacts on a persons decisions in life
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with culturally diverse participants
Assets:
  • Training in nonviolent crisis intervention, first aid/CPR certification, first aid mental health or relevant equivalents is an asset and required during duration of employment
  • Knowledge of HIFIS, SPDAT and the Housing First Program
  • A Safe Food Handlers Certificate
  • Working knowledge of Ontario Works and Ontario Disability Support Program
  • Knowledge of landlord tenant rights and responsibilities
Hours of Work:
  • Casual possibility for scheduled shifts $16-18/hr
  • Work schedule needs to be flexible to include all shifts
