Position: Early Childhood Educator (Nursery Instructor) (Two Positions)Location: Helen Betty Osborne Ininiw Education Resource CentreStart Date: September 7, 2021Hours/Days/Months: 6 hours/day, 5 days/weekTerm of Employment: Term to June 30, 2022Salary: $25.45/hourUnionized/Non-Unionized: UnionizedApplication Deadline: Friday, April 23, 2021Reporting to the Principal, the Early Childhood Educator (Nursery Instructor) will plan and organize activitiesto stimulate and develop intellectual, physical and emotional growth in nursery age children while ensuring asafe environmentQualifications:

  • Early Childhood Education certification.
  • Early Childhood Education experience would be an asset.
  • Prior experience in a child care setting, as an educational assistant or experience working with school-
age children is an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable school, Divisional and provincial policies and practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to treat students in a respectful, responsible and fair manner.
  • Ability to model appropriate behaviour and language and to practice proper hygiene.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others in a participative environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to adapt to the diverse situations that arise in educational environments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plans, organizes and implements programs for preschool children (age 4).
  • Provides and leads play based learning activities.
  • Provides a daily balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and individual/group activities
  • Establishes and carries out a daily activity schedule that incorporates child directed activity, care
routines and transition times
  • Develops activities that incorporates the history, culture and values of the community
  • Develops and implements child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive,
emotional and social development of children
  • Plans and maintains an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
  • Assesses the abilities, interests and needs of children and discusses progress or problems with parents
and other staff members
  • Observes children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for
parents, guardians, resource teacher, or principal
  • Guides and assists children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers
  • Attends staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children
  • Organizes space, equipment and materials before activities
  • Assists children in expressing themselves by listening and responding with questions or comments that
extend conversations
  • Encourages and assists children to practice self-help on a daily basis
  • Engages in on-going professional learning to enrich knowledge and skills that contribute to student
