Job Description

Sankofa Summer Academy for Black Youth ProgramThe Sankofa Summer Academy will provide an opportunity for students of African, Black and African-Caribbean descent to earn a Reach Ahead credit in either Grade 9 Academic (Destreamed) English course (ENG1D) or (Destreamed) Canadian History Since WW1 (CHC2D).This course aligns with the District’s commitment to equity and pursuant to Section 14 of the Ontario Human Rights Code Special Programs to serve groups, such as Black students, who have been underserved and/or disproportionately impacted by school practices, systems and structures.Essential Requirements for the PositionBased on the Special Program status of this course, the successful applicant is required to:be a person of Black, African or African-Caribbean descent who can demonstrate shared lived experience; andHold Intermediate qualifications relevant to preferred course(s) with the Ontario College of Teachers (in good standing) at the time of application.Application Process:Subject to the essential requirement above, all teachers (with or without Continuing Education (CE) Seniority) can apply to this posting. Priority consideration for interviews will be given to applicants on the Continuing Education List, in order of seniority.Remuneration: $48.79/hour + 4% (110 hours)Program location: Lisgar Collegiate Institute (South Building), 29 Lisgar St.Program Duration: July 6 - July 28, 2022Class times: 8:30 am to 3:35 pmDelivery Style of the ClassThis course will be held in person classroom setting as well as outings to various community events dependent upon Ottawa Public Health guidelines and Ministry directions.Teachers will be required to deliver the assigned credit in person while maintaining an asynchronous platform to supplement instruction. The platforms that will be used to deliver virtual learning expectations for students include Google Classroom, Google Meet, and other vetted applications.Please note, as per the most recent collective agreement, article 40.02 c: in the event that the Employer cancels two (2) or more day/evenings of Continuing Education courses as a result of unforeseen circumstances beyond its control, Continuing Education teachers will be required to attend and teach a make-up day.Notification of Offer:Offers will be sent via email to the address on record in Apply to Education by the Principal of Continuing Education.
