Job Description

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is seeking qualified ASL (American Sign Language) instructors to fill Continuing Education International & Indigenous Languages teaching and/or supply teaching positions for the summer IIL Program of 2021. Classes take place every day, Monday to Friday, between 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm from June 28 to July 23, 2021 (excluding July 1). The summer language classes will be offered virtually through Google Meet.The successful candidates will be paid for 2.5 hours per day for 19 days in total. The rate of pay for an IILP ASL instructor is $29.26 + 4% vac pay per hour.Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate and implement a program that is optimal for the ASL learning and that reflects current teaching practices in Ontario;
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students;
  • Familiarity with digital tools (e.g., Google Meet, Google Classroom, Google Site, etc.) to be able to teach virtually;
  • Incorporate equitable and inclusive learning practices;
  • Assess and evaluate students’ progress;
  • Communicate students’ progress to parents/guardians and students;
  • Supervision of students in any learning setting (physical or virtual);
  • Attend professional development learning opportunities.
Education, experience and qualifications:Applications will be considered on the basis of the following:
  • Fluency in ASL;
  • Teaching experience, with preference to ASL teaching experience;
  • Related degree or diploma, with preference to Ontario College of Teachers’ certification or equivalent.
