The Thales Ottawa office has been a major supplier and long-term trusted partner to DND, enabling the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Coast Guard to achieve mission success.JOB PURPOSETo support our growth, we are looking to add a Business Control Manager to our growing Finance team in Thales Canada, Defence and Security. The Business Control Manager will oversee the project cost control and function:Strong business acumen and ability to apply accounting principles within a complex business environmentImplement corporate accounting and internal control processes and ensures team compliance.Manage timely and accurate reporting relating to each project and common project reportingProvide appropriate guidance, training and leadership to Project Cost Control Team.Ensure cost control and trade finance services are adequately and properly delivered to projects.KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITYProject Cost ControlProvide financial leadership to the project team. To represent Finance within the Project Management Office organization and support Project Management for economical, finance and administrative tasks.Perform cost control and project financial management functions.Ensure compliance with Thales accounting & internal control process, and deliver on time with reliable and documented information and reports.Common ActivitiesTo act a Finance interface for common cost control activities such as preparation of management reporting for common project requirements more specifically:Financial forecast: Coordinate the production and validation of a consolidated company forecast of Change Order, Sales, Gross Margin, Adjusted Gross Margin, Cash flows by projects as well as identification of associated Risk and Opportunities.Budgeting: Coordinate once a year the production and validation of a consolidated 3 years plan budget (Profit & Loss, cash and Balance Sheet items for each projects) in liaise with Project Management Office organization and Corporate ControllerAudit (External and Internal): Coordinate the Projects audit and Internal Control process in liaise with Project Management Office and Corporate ControllerMonthly Project review with Management Team: Coordinate the monthly production of Project reviews Dashboard preparations for Financials figures in coordination with Project Manager.Ensures internal control of project costing and maintains contract documents, including Project financial key data (Sales/Gross Margin/Adjusted Gross Margin /Risk & Opportunity/Work in Progress/Accounts Receivable/Inventory).Prepares and validates with Project Manager on monthly basis the re-forecasting of Sales, Gross Margin, Cost Variance, Adjusted Gross Margin and Cash.Understands project commercial terms & conditions and ensures that the project is in compliance with all the terms and conditions of the contract.Provides support or back-up for Internal Pricing Specialist on bids.Supports yearly rates calculation and negotiation.Maintains effective interface between both management and department staff, facilitating the continued flow of communications between all levels.Performs special project assignments as requested.People Management:Provides oversight and direction to a team of 4-6 employees within the Finance department in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures.Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities.Leads employees to meet the organizations expectations for productivity, quality, continuous improvement, and goal accomplishment.Fosters a spirit of teamwork and unity among department members that allows for cohesiveness, support, and working effectively together to enable each employee and the department to succeed.Works with Human Resources staff to recruit, interview, select, hire, and employ an appropriate number of employees.REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE+5 years Finance and or Project Management experienceUniversity degree in similar discipline or equivalent work experiencePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSIn-depth knowledge of Primavera and SAPHigh level of experience with ExcelGood organizational abilitiesAbility to develop strong relationships across the business through excellent customer serviceRecognized for their ability to develop and engage individuals and the collective teamGood communication and interpersonal skillsThales is an equal opportunity employer which values diversity and inclusivity in the workplace.
