Job Description

Scope of PositionReporting to the Director Business Development and Brokered Services, the Business Development Officer seeks out new business opportunities and broker relationships promoting programs that will contribute to profitable growth of Alterna Savings and Alterna Bank primarily through the acquisition of brokered mortgages, personal loans, lines of credit, creditor insurance and general banking products. The incumbent will represent Alterna Saving/Alterna Bank while proactively developing a network of relationships of current and potential members/clients through mortgage brokerage referral sources.Major ResponsibilitiesAlterna Savings/Alterna Bank Mortgage Development

  • Develop and maintain mortgage broker relationships through regular visitation (virtual and in person where possible) and telephone/email communication
  • Continue to coordinate broker referrals through Finastra
  • Develop and maintain relationships
    • internally with the Alterna Savings branch network and support staff
    • externally with brokers, realtors, financial planners, lawyers and accountants
  • assists with onboarding of all new mortgage members and clients
  • Attend networking events and open houses to represent Alterna when required
  • Keep abreast of developments and changing activities within the real estate market place
  • Participate in promotion of profitable campaigns as they come forward from product development and utilize appropriate marketing sales tools
  • Maintain reporting for profitability and year-end targets/goals
  • Ensure policies and procedures are maintained. Accountable for risk management through adherence to best practices, policies and procedures
  • Educate third party referral sources providers such as mortgage brokers and realtors
  • Keep abreast and knowledgeable of product and service changes
  • Accountable for ensuring that contracts and licenses are maintained and adhered to in collaboration with the loans administration team.
Mortgage Brokerage Services
  • Develop and maintain relationships
    • internally with the Alterna Savings branch network
    • externally with brokers
  • Attend networking events and open houses when and where required
  • Keep abreast of developments and changing activities within the real estate market place and the regulatory requirements of both insurers and regulators;
  • Participate in promotion of profitable campaigns as they come forward from product development and utilize marketing tools
  • Maintain reporting spreadsheets as follow-up toward year-end targets/goals as well as daily closing submissions to accounting
  • Keep Mortgage brokers abreast of pricing and products changes and acting upon those.
Qualifications Educations / Certifications / Experience
  • Post secondary education, preferably in finance, economics, or accounting
  • AMP
  • Experience in developing new business relationships with a variety of business sources
  • 5 years credit granting experience at a senior level
  • Extensive credit granting experience
  • Extensive knowledge of residential property law
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of the mortgage brokerage market in the GTA or NCR
Knowledge / Skills
  • Knowledge of various Windows based computer applications such as e-mail and Internet navigation
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of the mortgage brokerage industry, business development, marketing/sales techniques
