Job Description

Reuters is looking for an energetic and enterprising reporter to cover the Canadian economy. Based in Ottawa, the successful candidate will be a detail-focused journalist able to move deftly from coverage of the central bank and finance department to economic indicators. The role requires an ability to execute original initiative stories on the Canadian economy at a time when the central bank is battling persistent inflation and the economy facing a potential recession.Speed and accuracy are vital as is the ability to sift through data to write authoritative stories that capture changing trends in the economy. This is a great opportunity for a self-directed individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is quick on their feet and adept at spotting smart trends in economic data.About the RoleAs our Canada Economics Reporter, you will:

  • Cover everything from the impact of rising interest rates on the housing market and consumers to trade relations and changing global supply chains in the aftermath of the COVID 19 pandemic
  • Coordinate with Canadian and global colleagues to produce ahead of the curve and insightful stories
About YouTo be our Canada Economics Reporter, you will likely have:
  • Strong writing and reporting skills
  • Strong source building skills
  • Proven ability to break news and set the news agenda
  • The ability to execute original initiative stories
  • Five to 10 years experience
  • Fluent French preferred
