In partnership with the people and communities of Ottawa, Ottawa Public Health improves and advocates for health and well-being through prevention, promotion and protection.You provide clerical support to the Public Health Nurses in the follow-up activities related to COVID-19; including assisting with management and follow-up of infected clients. You also answer and triage incoming calls and maintain an accurate patient/records management system.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCECompletion of Grade 12 plus 1-year office administration certificate3 years of relevant Medical Office experience, including 2 years of intensive experience in Data EntryKNOWLEDGE

  • Basic understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology and harm reduction approach
  • Medical office administration and electronic medical office management systems
  • Management of medical records
  • Public Health Services and the health care system
  • Current legislation pertaining to health information and confidentiality
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills combined with excellent customer service skills
  • Use medical protocols/directives
  • Use electronic database to enter, search, recall client information, and book appointments
  • Format documents using the concepts taught at Advanced Word level

  • Use PowerPoint to prepare presentations
  • Search and retrieve information from the Internet
  • Generate computerized reports
  • Proofread and edit documents processed
  • Set up and maintain filing systems, both hard copy and electronic forms
  • Use a scanner, colour printer and other office equipment effectively and efficiently

  • Able to work in an environment of changing priorities and multiple demands, including some evening work as required

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Language Requirement: Designated Day 1 Ready – immediate requirement for language proficiency: French: oral, reading, writing English: oral, reading, writing Candidates must meet language requirement for position upon hire.
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Note: Under the age of 18, requires a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters check in place of the Vulnerable Sector Check.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
  • You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
  • This role works in a high-risk setting; therefore, all employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination as a condition of employment in accordance with the City’s Mandatory Vaccination Policy.
