Job Description

Larga Baffin has an exciting opportunity as a: Full Time HR GeneralistLarga Baffin is classified as an Essential Service and is taking all mandatory and recommended preventive measures as per Public Health authorities to ensure the health and safety of all staff and residents.A special thank you to all front-line workers for your commitment and dedication to serving those in needPosition OverviewThe Human Resources Generalist, under the direction of the General Manager, will primarily be responsible to coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities and delegating work accordingly. The Human Resource Generalist will determine staffing requirements for the administration department and oversee the hiring of staff. This role will also evaluate policies and procedures and provide recommendations for changes to improve efficiency. The Human Resources Generalist must possess ability to identify measures of performance and actions needed to improve or correct performance and ability to initiate and model positive change.The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for supporting the operational and strategic objectives of the organization by utilizing their skills and knowledge in many functional areas of Human Resources, including but not limited to; employee and labour relations, legislative compliance, human resources programs, recruitment and selection, organizational development, writing/updating job descriptions, writing /updating policies and Procedures, training, health and safety and performance management. The Human Resources Generalist will play an integral role in promoting and strengthening a culture where health, safety, quality, and risk management are important elements of everyday work life and focus on a collaborative approach to continuous improvement.Key ResponsibilitiesEmployee and Labour Relations

  • Provides advice to managers and employees on the interpretation and application of policies, procedures, collective agreements and employment legislation
  • Advises managers on attendance and performance issues and appropriate courses of action
  • Coordinates the employee separation process and conducts exit interviews
  • Works with managers and union representatives to resolve employee complaints and grievances
  • Leads the grievance process and drafts responses to grievances
  • Participates in labour management meetings
  • May participate as a member of the bargaining team and provides input into the collective bargaining process
  • Leads the investigation and resolution of employee complaints
Human Resources Programs and Processes
  • Assists with the development and implementation of programs and activities, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, employment legislation and collective agreements
  • Assists the organization with change management and employee engagement programs and practices
  • Assists with team building, helping teams develop strong working relationships and assisting in the development of productive team dynamics
Recruitment, Selection, and On-Boarding
  • Supports managers to identify staffing requirements in relation to the needs of their department
  • In collaboration with hiring managers, coordinates and participates in the recruitment and selection process, including but not limited to: screening of resumes, conducting phone interviews, conducting in-person interviews, conducting reference checks and negotiating offers of employment
  • Ensures coordination and smooth transition in the on-boarding and Orientation of new employees
Minimum Job Requirements
  • University degree or College diploma with a focus on Human Resources Management
  • 5 - 7 years of progressive HR Business Partner or HR Advisor experience
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • A combination of education and experience satisfactory to Larga Baffin
  • Certified Human Resources Professional/Leader designation is considered an asset
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply the applicable employment legislation and regulatory requirements including but not limited to, Employment Standards Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Human Rights Code, and the Labour Relations Act
  • Knowledge of current trends, principles and developments in the Human Resources field
  • Knowledge and understanding of risk mitigation strategies
  • Ability to advise and communicate effectively both orally and in writing with employees and managers at various levels, union representatives, the general public, external agencies and third-party administrators
  • Ability to deal with confidential information with a high degree of diplomacy; ability to build trusted relationships
  • Effective Leadership skills, with a strong focus on mentoring and motivation or employees
  • Ability to identify issues and implement creative and strategic solutions to overcome problems
  • Experience coaching and mentoring managers and employees and provide day-to-day support on all HR related matters
  • Advising management and resolving employee relations issues
  • Conducting thorough and objective investigations and providing recommendations for conflict resolution
  • Identify, gather and provide requirements to help with the development of HR policies, programs and initiatives and participate in implementation
  • Promoting Health and Safety by ensuring compliance in partnership with Managers
  • Working closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention
  • Leading Human Resources projects assigned by General Manager and the President
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to pay attention to detail
  • Experience administering Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)
  • Proficiency with software programs in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
  • Beneficiary status with the ability to speak Inuktitut
Work Conditions:
