External posting - open to Casuals and Term employees within ESPIndigenous Student Support CoordinatorLocation: Program & Learning, Equity & Indigenous Education Support TeamStatus: Regular, Full-time (100%), 35 hours per weekWork Hours: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week (12 month work year)Salary range: $54,674 to $70,594 (ESP, Level 8)Under the direction of the Superintendent of Instruction responsible for Indigenous Education, the Indigenous Student Support Coordinator assists and supports Indigenous children, youth and families with well-being, overcoming challenges, building partnerships among schools, and with the local First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities and organizations in support of student success. The primary objectives of this position are to improve the engagement of Indigenous youth. Key areas include (but not limited to):Creating opportunities for Indigenous youth to learn and participate in culture, traditions and languageDeveloping consistent holistic well-being of First Nations, Métis and Inuit students;Developing a strong, respectful working relationship with local First Nations, Métis and Inuit families, communities, organizations, Elders, and Traditional Knowledge Keepers throughout the Ottawa area;Ensuring structures and strategies are in place to engage, mentor, monitor and meet the learning needs and stated aspirations of First Nations, Métis and Inuit students.Providing support to school community (Principals, Teachers).Candidate Profile:Candidates will hold college diploma or university degree in a related field, and minimum two years of experience working with Indigenous youth. Knowledge of Indigenous cultural teachings and the ability to implement teachings.Experience deeply rooted in local Indigenous communities is required for the position.Identification as a First Nation, Métis or Inuit community member and lived experience with systemic oppression is an asset.Knowledge of Indigenous language, culture, customs and traditions; the Ontario First Nation, Métis, and Inuit Education Policy Framework and Implementation Plan.Knowledge of relevant Board policies, procedures, current educational and ethno-cultural equity issues;Skills to support and advocate for students in complex social, emotional, behavioral situations; maintain close working relationships with school personnel and other board support staff through regular school visits; and promote and/or maintain positive relations between school and home.Skills to motivate students, mediate, exchange and clarify information with students; and resolve conflicts/problems with students and District personnel.Organization and time management skills to plan, prioritize work, and to deal with multiple school sites.Research and presentation skills for planning and conducting workshops.Ability to gather and evaluate information from a range of sources such as individual interviews, school setting observations, collateral contacts with agencies and professionals, documents.Working as part of team and in a culturally diverse environment; and can work with minimal supervision.Proficiency in word processing, desktop publishing and databases, and ability to use a variety of other computer software programs.Valid “G†Class driver’s license and access to personal vehicle for local travel between schools.APPLICATION PROCESS:Applications will be considered in accordance with the ESP Collective Agreement.The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board utilizes Apply to Education (ATE) to manage its applications and competition/staffing processes.OCDSB employees can apply on-line using their existing ATE account.
