Provides functional support, technical guidance, and advice in areas of Network and IT Security technologies both on premise and externally hosted.Job DescriptionKey Activities:Strategy and Planning

  • Supports and follows NAV CANADA’s corporate initiatives.
  • Assists in the development of the initiatives (projects and lifecycle) and assists in the formulation of innovative forward-thinking strategies and plans to advance business and/or operational needs and reduce costs.
  • Participates in conducting feasibility studies, estimating costs, time, and personnel requirements, conducting cost-benefit analyses. Contributes to the development of specifications, standards, evaluation criteria and participates in the evaluation of complex solutions (inhouse or commercial).
  • Participates in planning, providing clear estimations and timelines for when activities and commitment dates will be met.
  • Keeps abreast of emerging computing trends and evolving technology platforms in areas of specialization.
  • Design and Implementation
  • Participates in requirements gathering and analysis, contributes to detailed plans, system architecture, designs and specifications for the provision and implementation of infrastructure systems and technology solutions to meet business and/or operational, technical, security, protection, and safety requirements.
  • Participates in work required to develop, configure, enhance, update, test and implement (including automation of) system and subsystem infrastructure components and technology solutions.
  • Provides technical documentation of infrastructure system and subsystem architecture and designs, specifications, processes, test cases and scripts. Provide documentation, training material and change management support in transitioning software, systems, and technologies into operation.
  • Systems Life Cycle Support
  • Participate in developing modifications to existing infrastructure systems and technology solutions, to rectify deficiencies, to meet new business and/or operational requirements, to maintain operability, reliability, security, configuration management, to improve performance, or reduce costs in accordance with Technology Departments standards and procedures. Ensures service levels are met.
  • Assists in providing technical leadership and recommendations contributing to the development and implementation of relevant NAV CANADA policies, technical procedures, service levels and tools.
  • Team Leadership / People Development
  • Under Manager’s and/or Team Lead’s direction, may lead in moderately complex or multiple moderately complex project(s), including cross-functional projects.
  • Assist in guiding and developing junior team members.
  • Provides opinion and recommendation to management on issues affecting the dynamics/productivity of the team.
  • Quality / Standards Compliance
  • Promotes and follows the Technology Departments Safety and Quality processes set forth by NAV CANADA.
  • Participates in the creation of plans, procedures and deliverables which align with the Technology Departments Frameworks and Processes.
  • Job requirementsEducation/Occupational Certification:
  • Degree from a recognized university or community college with an acceptable specialization in computer, electrical engineering, systems engineering, computer science or information systems, and at least 5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience:Knowledge
  • Thorough knowledge of infrastructure systems and technologies in one or more infrastructure domains (Network and Firewall)
  • Knowledge of the design, support, life-cycle and industry trends for a subset of Wide Area Network (WAN), Metro Area Network (MAN) and Local Area Network (LAN), IPSec and SSL VPN connectivity, WAN acceleration and optimization technologies, wireless (Wi-Fi) networking technologies, Network Access Control (NAC), Network Load Balancing technology, Network Virtualization technologies, Firewall technologies, Intrusion Protection Systems (IPS), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Web Application Firewall technology (WAF), Application Delivery Controllers (ADC), Web Filter and Web Proxy technologies, Network Authentication technology (SAML and Federated Active Directory), and SSL Web Services.
  • Knowledge of modern system life cycle processes, practices, and techniques, including Agile, Scrum and DevOps
  • Knowledge of traditional systems development methodologies and techniques
  • Knowledge of system and software configuration management, change management processes, practices, tools, and techniques.
  • Knowledge in supported corporate technologies including software, hardware, network and operating systems, cloud-based environments
  • Knowledge of Technology Departments frameworks and processes.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity considerations in infrastructure technologies, systems, and services.
  • Knowledge of project management processes and procedures.
  • General knowledge of contract/procurement processes in NAV CANADA
  • Abilities:
  • Skill in analyzing specified business and operational requirements to determine how these can best be met within the limitations of time, budget, and staff resources.
  • Skill in detecting, analyzing and correcting system and service deficiencies and/or recommending new actions/process improvements
  • Skill in professional discussions with internal customers, stakeholders, and management and with external consultants and industry to ensure that important aspects are not overlooked.
  • Skill in writing clear, cohesive, and concise documentation that is easily understandable by colleagues, management, stakeholders, and customers.
  • Skill in communicating clearly in conversation and in presentations to both technical and non-technical staff and management.

  • in the design when a high degree of concentration is required but those periods can usually be scheduled so that interruptions are manageable.
  • Time pressures are tight with multiple deadlines, but the Infrastructure Analyst has a measure of control over the sequencing of work schedule.
  • Travel may be required on occasion.
  • This position is based at the Ottawa TSC location but may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
