Job Description

More than 30,000 organizations already rely on us to verify the identities of people and things, grant access to digital services, analyze vast quantities of information and encrypt data to make the connected world more secure.Position SummaryProvide a general statement regarding the overall objective of the positon (e.g., the purpose of the job and why this position exists)The Technical Writer is a key member of the Thales Cloud Delivery Platform (CDP) team, which helps to create cloud-based platforms providing a wide range of on-demand key management and encryption services through a simple online marketplace.Essential Functions / Key Areas of ResponsibilityList the essential functions required for this position to exist. Also, list the responsibilities that must be completed in achieving the objectives of the position. Include all important aspects of the job - whether performed daily, weekly, monthly, or annually; and any that occur at irregular intervals. Focus these responses on direct actions or key functions.The Technical Writer works closely with software and hardware developers, verification engineers, product managers, and technical support staff to gather, organize, and present technical information in a task-based format that is easy to use, navigate, and search.Responsibilities include the following:

  • Work in an agile scrum environment with developers, testers, and product managers to document new product features, bug fixes, and enhancements as they are being developed
  • Collect relevant information for documentation tasks by using the products, interviewing subject matter experts, reviewing existing documentation and correspondence, and conducting research using external resources such as the internet
  • Organize the format and layout of the documentation, focusing on usability and maintainability
  • Organize documentation reviews and incorporate review feedback in the documentation
  • Assume the role of the customer and make recommendations to improve the usability and overall user experience of the products you are documenting
  • Become an expert user of the products you are documenting so that you can teach others how to use them
  • Provide regular status updates regarding the progress of your tasks, including immediate notification of any impediments which may impact your deliverables
  • Assist with migration efforts of content between documentation tools/content management systems and investigate automation methods for the process
  • Collaborate with external employees while providing editorial and structural recommendations

Familiarity with security protocols, networking, and the software development life cycle is desirableMust be an organized self-starter with strong writing skills and the ability to work effectively, both in teams and as an independent contributorPreferred QualificationsPreferred attributes for the position, which are not required in the minimum qualifications (e.g., master degree)The successful candidate requires the following specialized skills to succeed in this position:
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Able to work in a fast-paced Agile Scrum environment
  • Able to adapt to changing requirements
  • Able to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks
  • Able to collect, filter, and organize large volumes of information so that only the information that is relevant to end user is included in the documentation
  • Able to present ideas and concepts to a group of people
  • Able to host and lead review meetings and organize reviews of documentation
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with open-source documentation tools
  • Experience with HTML and markdown
  • Experience with Git
  • Familiarity with JIRA, or similar project-tracking software
  • Working knowledge of Windows, Linux/UNIX operating systems
  • Familiarity with graphic tools such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop or their open-source equivalents
