We pride ourselves on providing quality in all products, whether developed and manufactured internally or sourced elsewhere.A position at Lee Valley is more than just a job – we honor the time and dedication that our people give by providing sustained and meaningful employment and we strive to provide an environment where learning and development are encouraged.OverviewResponsible for all aspects of development and support for internally created or supported application software, including: the development methodologies, technologies (language, databases, and support tools), development and testing hardware/software environments, and management of the application development staff and project workload for the agency.Key Responsibilities:Supervise the projects and responsibilities of the Programmer/Analysts.Responsible for the prioritization of projects assigned to the Application Development team.Responsible for the complete development lifecycle of the company software systems; including gathering requirements, database management, software development, testing, implementation, user follow up, support and Project Management.Responsible for the Integrity, Maintenance and changes to the Application Development Servers and Databases.Responsible for developing and implementing change control processes for the development team to follow.Provides ad-hoc reporting and decision support required for management decision processes.Makes technology decisions that affect Software Development.Works on special IT projects as needed.Makes recommendations to improve the department and the IT services we provide.Provides guidance and advice to group members relating to their approach and methodology in pursuing their assigned responsibilities.Works with the management team to plan departmental staffing levels, participates in recruitment and development of ongoing training programs for staff.Responsible for effective communications with other groups to ensure accurate and timely information is provided to management and colleagues.Takes responsibility overall for the performance of the assigned group to defined expectations.Takes on projects that directly relate to the group’s function, or expand beyond the department.Provide various reports and analyses as defined by management.Ensures software development is done within PCI security standardsKnowledge and SkillsUniversity degree in Computer Science or Business with 10 years of full life cycle application development in a business environment.Experience managing programmers/developers.A minimum of five years of working /development knowledge on an IBM System i (AS/400) using RPGWorking knowledge of the CASE tool SYNON 2E would be a definite asset.Retail Business/Application knowledge in the following areas:Warehouse managementInventoryOrder EntryPurchasingPoint of SaleWorking knowledge of the following would be an asset:Microsoft .NET programming including Windows Apps/services and Web ServicesSQL Server Administration and development.Job Specific SkillsStrong business analysis, interpersonal, communication, facilitation and problem solving skills.Highly organized and detail oriented.Sound technical knowledge of IBM System i, RPG/SYNON 2E programming language, SQL server, server hardware/software (Windows Environment)Customer service oriented.Mental effort required is moderate intensity for more than 4 hours per day, or high intensity for 2-4 hours per day.Physical effort required is low intensity, less than 2 hours per day.
