Job Description

The Opportunity:Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Manager, Financial Reporting is responsible for the external and internal financial reporting and analysis, which includes leading the preparation of consolidated financial statements and related note disclosures in accordance with IFRS as well as the preparation of the internal reporting packages.What you’ll be responsible for day to day:

  • Review the monthly/ quarterly / yearly consolidation process for financial and management reporting by:
  • Maintaining a monthly checklist and coordinating the accumulation of documents from divisional accounting teams to ensure timely and accurate reporting;
  • Review all reporting information received from the divisional accounting team and review the reconciliations of intercompany transactions and investment in subsidiary activity;
  • Review the various consolidations, including recording all eliminating entries (intercompany investment and transactions) and reviewing the accuracy of the consolidation adjustments and entries;
  • Review supporting schedules and any other deliverables;
  • Review the financial statements, including note disclosures, prepared for both partners and bank;
  • Coordinate the audit with external auditors;
  • Maintain mapping from GL accounts to the consolidation tool;
  • Review and approve changes for the consolidation tool (BPC) by reviewing the tests and analysis to ensure continued development for the tools and ongoing;
  • Provide change leadership and functional guidance to streamline processes for the production of reporting schedules through systems automation;
  • Proactively identify issues and implement process improvements to streamline accounting and reporting processes;
  • Provide leadership and direct the team in a fast paced work environment to deliver high-quality financial statements, financial reports and analysis;
  • Meet the internal and external deadlines by demonstrating strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize.
Who we’re looking for:
  • Education: A professional accounting designation (CPA)
  • Experience: 7+ years of progressive technical accounting experience involving the application and analysis of accounting standards;
  • Experience in public practice and real estate companies is highly desirable;
  • Experience with leading a team of finance professionals.
Specialized Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Ability to analyze complex issues, diagnose multi-dimentsional problems, and devise appropriate recommendations;
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and ASPE with demonstrated ability to apply IFRS and regulatory knowledge to the review of financial documents for disclosure and technical memos to detect potential errors or gaps;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Proven communication skills (verbal and written) combined with excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of ERP systems (SAP, NewStar or Yardi is an asset).
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of consolidation systems (BPC is an asset).
