Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:Reporting to the Physical Security Supervisor, the Physical Security Technician is responsible for work carried out to assist Technical Services to expand and maintain the campus wide physical security and parking infrastructure and related equipment.The incumbent coordinates the approved installations, configures and maintains physical security systems as well as repairs or upgrades to the existing security infrastructure. In addition, the incumbent analyses and repairs physical and software problems related to the security infrastructure.The incumbent provides customer service support and assists with cash deposits for the Parking Services office, operates University vehicles and performs other related duties as required/assigned.In addition, the incumbent analyses and repairs physical and software problems related to the security infrastructure. Administrative responsibilities include the production of daily and monthly activity reports and the documentation of work performed. The incumbent acts as a backup for the Physical Security Supervisor and Equipment Technician as required and performs other related duties as required.Qualifications:The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Excellent knowledge of and aptitude in computer hardware and networking;
  • Experience configuring and maintaining electronic alarm equipment and video security devices;
  • Ability to trouble-shoot, repair and upgrade the security infrastructure;
  • Since this is a rapidly changing field, an ability to adapt to changes is required;
  • Working experience with network topology;
  • Trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills
  • A degree of initiative, resourcefulness, and judgement are required;
  • The incumbent be a self-starter, technically competent and highly organized; due to the sensitive nature of the job responsibilities, the ability to uphold confidentiality is required;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to collaborate between the different internal departments and external vendors to ensure the equipment is properly configured, installed and maintained.
Education and Experience:The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
  • Two years of post-secondary education in a computer science/system administration field.
  • Panasonic Technical Certification Training and CPTED levels 1 and 2 would be an asset.
  • Three years of related experience, specifically with the configuring and troubleshooting electronic Security Systems Applications, and Video Management Administrator experience
