Job Description

Larga Baffin has an exciting opportunity as a: Full Time Prep CookLarga Baffin is classified as an Essential Service and is taking all mandatory and recommended preventive measures as per Public Health authorities to ensure the health and safety of all staff and residents. A special thank you to all front-line workers for your commitment and dedication to serving those in needPosition OverviewReporting to the Kitchen Managers / Supervisors, the Prep-Cook will be responsible for ensuring high quality standards in food production, taste and presentation. Must possess passion for great food and take pride in the finished product. Strong organizational and prioritization skills with professional dedication is essential. The Prep-Cook will demonstrate careful attention to detail and commitment to working both independently and in a team environment while maintaining and enhancing our clients service expectations.Key Responsibilities

  • Assists the First Cook, Cook and Pastry Chef in preparing meals and desserts in advance for daily meals on site and for take-out requests (breakfast and/or lunch and/or dinner)
  • Assists in serving food when needed
  • Ensures food is cooked properly
  • Produce food that meets Health Canada standards
  • Presents food in a professional manner
  • Portion, arrange and garnish food for serving
  • Substitute for or assist other Cook(s) during emergencies, rush periods, or otherwise required, as experience develops
  • Ensures stock for all meals is readily available in kitchen
  • Assists with the coordination, shipping and receiving and stock rotation of food
  • Assists in updating list of out of stock and low stock items based on current inventory
  • Follows and understands FIFO (first in – first out) regulations
  • Maintain a safe, secure and healthy work environment by following procedures and complying with safety regulations
  • Perform a number of kitchen cleaning duties which include sanitizing, wiping, sweeping, cleaning, washing, dusting, mopping, distributing and stocking supplies
  • Assists as Dishwasher / Server and cleaning as and when needed
  • Communicate with various departments to ensure clients’ needs are met
  • Assist with additional tasks as and when needed or assigned by management both within and outside role and department to support Larga operations
Minimum Qualifications
  • Previous experience in Kitchen an asset – minimum 1 year
  • Previous customer service experience – prefer minimum of 1 year
  • High school diploma (or equivalent)
  • Ontario Safe Food Handling Certification
  • Previous experience preferred in a hospital or industrial type setting which includes public interaction
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods such as lifting, carrying, bending, standing, kneeling, crouching and stocking supplies

Preferred Qualifications
  • Inuktitut a strong asset
  • First Aid / CPR/ AED trained (or a willingness to learn)
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training (or a willingness to learn)
